The specialisation of the new museum was determined as technological and industrial. Its purpose was formulated as assisting "dissemination of knowledge between members of the uneducated classes" and "development of technical knowledge in general". The founders of the Museum intended to solve the set tasks by building collections with the effort of the Society members as well as by obtaining materials and objects that reflected achievements of the natural and technical sciences, by creating expositions and by performing oral explanations and by organising various kinds of public lectures. For many years, these tasks were the main tasks of the Museum. The Museum soon became popular and, most importantly, affordable virtually for everybody, thanks to its clear vision of what it should become for the Russians.

His brother Otto KUHL was a trained carpenter and had his own small enterprise. When the NAZIs came to power, he got no more public orders, because he refused to become a party member. He closed his company and was sent to Bremerhaven, where he had to work for the navy. At the end of the war he was in Danzig again. The Russians treated him as a capitalist, because he was selfemployed earlier on, and he had to clean latrines. Thereby he got a carbuncle at his neck and died.

The neo-Nazi ideology became the ideology of the new state. This is an ideology under which one ethnic group dictates to all others. It is an ideology of reprisals against Russians (and any partisans of Russia): an ideology of reprisals against dissidents. The new authorities proclaimed, “One nation – one language – one church – one state.”

Peter Kronig betreut Deutsche, Engländer, Amerikaner, Franzosen,
Russen

Peter Kronig is one of those ski instructors that rarely works directly for the Swiss Ski & Snowboard school in Zermatt, on the contrary, he brings guests in: "I have already brought many guests to the ski school," he says. He has regular customers who have been coming to him every winter for decades. "A Frenchman has been coming for 30 years, now he comes with his children and grandchildren," he says modestly smiling, and one can sense that there is a friendship there - not just a relationship between a ski instructor and a client. Peter Kronig looks after the Germans, British, Americans, French and Russians. "I learned to speak English in England with seventeen and French in France with eighteen, each a summer long, he recalls. But it is not just an understanding of languages that is required, but also manners. He knows that "Whoever is not correct and hospitable, soon has no more guests." The instructor is often not just a teacher, but also a companion, someone to chat with, good company.

The theremin is named after its inventor Leon Theremin. This lecture will focus on the connection between the inventor’s biography and the invention as such. The development of the instrument had a great impact on the life of the inventor; it made him an international celebrity early in life, a KGB spy, a New York-based millionaire, a political prisoner back in the Soviet Union and a Stalin Prize winner. His life (1896–1993) spans the entire history of the Soviet Union and his remarkable biography, which is so rich in contradictions, shows him in his double role as a player taking an active part in 20th century world politics and as an individual at the mercy of global developments.
