A panel discussion with multimedia presentations will feature Sandra Piccinini, President of the Istituzione Nidi e Scuole d'Infanzia of the City of Reggio Emilia, Jerome S. Bruner, Research Professor of Psychology at New York University, Lella Gandini, US Liaison for the Dissemination of the Reggio Emilia Approach, and Sonya Shoptaugh of the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance. For more than 40 years Reggio Emilia has given life to an experience demonstrating that education can be a fundamental resource for a city and the development of its everyday quality of life. The experience of the Municipal Infant-Toddler Centers and Preschools of Reggio Emilia has developed and implemented a pedagogical and cultural project that continues to represent a reference point of intense vitality for the city of Reggio Emilia. It is the subject of interest, research, and exchange on the part of teachers, teacher educators, administrators, and political and cultural figures from all over Italy and throughout the world.Suggested links:Reggio Children North American Reggio Emilia Alliance RC Publications Jerome Bruner is Research Professor of Psychology and Senior Research Fellow in Law at New York University. Before coming to New York University, he taught at Oxford University and Harvard University where he was also Director of the Center for Cognitive Studies. Among the many awards he received for his scientific work, most notable are the International Balzan Prize, the Gold Medal of the CIBA Foundation, and the Distinguished Scientific Awards of both the American Psychological Association and the Society for Research on Child Development. He has written extensively on the processes by which human beings achieve, remember, and transform knowledge about the world. His most recent books are The Culture of Education (1996) and Acts of Meaning (1991). He is currently much occupied with the nature and uses of narrative thinking and with the means we use to interpret narrative meanings.
