Jai buvo pavesta parašyti poemą Stalino garbei. Poetė tokią poemą parašė. Be to, ji rašė ir daugiau eilėraščių partinėmis temomis. Ligi šiol yra daug įvairių nuomonių apie jos visišką ištikimumą.
The occupation of 1940 meant the tragic culmination of S.Nėris's life. She was appointed the member of the so called "People's Seimas" (Parliament), and also elected to participate at the delegation that went to the Supreme Council of the Soviet Union to appeal for adoption of occupied Lithuania into the Soviet Union. She was also assigned to write a poem glorifying Stalin. The poetess did write such a poem. She also wrote more verses on the themes dictated by the communist party. Until now there are many different opinions whether she was totally loyal.

In 1931 S.Nėris moved to live in Kaunas, where she gave lessons and edited Lithuanian folk tales. In the second collection of S.Nėris's poetry, "The Footprints in the Sand", one can already spot the verses that assert the oncoming spiritual crisis. In the same year the verses containing revolutionary motives were published in the procommunist literary journal "Trečias frontas" (The Third Front). There was also published her promise to work for bolsheviks, only it was written not by S.Nėris herself.

A.Kalanavičius was born on June 5, 1945 in the village of Sapiegiškės near Nedzingė in the district of Varėna. He attended the secondary school at Nedzingė. In 1965-1968 he studied Lithuanian language and literature at Vilnius University and Vilnius Pedagogical Institute. He began his literary attempts in his teen ages, and his first verse was published in the district newspaper of Varėna. Since 1965 his poetry was published in various newspapers and journals. In 1967-1968 A.Kalanavičius tried to write songs.

The book consists of: the dedication in Latin "To the Great Duchy of Lithuania", two prefaces: in Latin (in prose), and in Lithuanian (in verse), an ABC book; the catechism, and the book of songs. The rhymed preface in Lithuanian, "The Appeal of The Small Book Itself Unto Lithuanians and Samogitians", is the first authentic verse in Lithuanian. The initial letters of its lines from 3 to 19 downwards form the name of the author, Martinus Masvidius, thus confirming his authorship.

Antano Strazdo ,,Giesmės svietiškos ir šventos", išleistos Vilniuje 1814m., yra pirmas originalių lietuviškų eilėraščių rinkinys. Tai lietuvių pasaulietinės poezijos pradžia. Nors K.Donelaičio "Metai" parašyti anksčiau (XVIIIa. 7-ame dešimtmetyje), bet išspausdinti jie buvo Karaliaučiuje tiktai 1818 m.- taigi praėjus ketveriems metams po A. Strazdo rinkinio pasirodymo. A.Strazdo ,,Giesmės…" ir K.Donelaičio ,,Metai" - visos Lietuvių grožinės literatūros ištakos.
"The Songs, Worldly and Saint" by Antanas Strazdas, that were published in Vilnius in 1814, is the first selection of original Lithuanian poetry. It marks the beginning of Lithuanian secular poetry. Though "The Seasons" by K. Donelaitis were written earlier (in the 7th decade of the 18th century), they were published in Königsberg in 1818, i.e. four years after "The Songs..." by Strazdas. "The Songs..." by Strazdas and "The Seasons" by K. Donelaitis are at the sources of all Lithuanian fiction.

A.Miškinio kūryboje yra 10 metų tarpas. Sibiro tremtyje poetas sukūrė vieną pačių stipriausių pasipriešinimo literatūros kūrinių - eilėraščių ciklą (paskelbta 1989m.). Grįžęs į Lietuvą, poetas galėjo rašyti tik optimistinius arba neutralius gamtinius eilėraščius, vertė įvairių autorių kūrinius į lietuvių kalbą, rašė atsiminimus.
In 1945-1948 A.Miškinis was an editor at the State Fiction Literature Publishing House, and joined the movement of the anti-Soviet resistance. In 1948 he was arrested, sentenced to death in absentia, and later was deported to Siberia. Only in 1956 he was allowed to come back to Lithuania. There is a ten-years break in works of A.Miškinis. During exile in Siberia a poet had created one of the most powerful works of Lithuanian resistance - a cycle of verses (published in 1989). After coming back to Lithuania the poet could write only the optimistic verses, or neutral verses about nature, or translate into Lithuanian works of various authors, and write memoirs as well.

Pagrindinį savo kūrinį "Metus" K.Donelaitis rašė 1765 - 1775m. Pats K.Donelaitis savo kūrybos nespausdino. Pirmasis K.Donelaičio raštų leidėjas buvo L.Rėza ("Metus" jis paskelbė 1818, pasakėčias 1824). Rašė eilėraščius ir vokiečių kalba.
K.Donelaitis had started his literary work in 1740-1743. Six of his fables had reached our times and most probably they were written during this initial period of his creative activity. K.Donelaitis has worked on his main work "The Seasons" in 1765-1775. He had not published his works himself. The first publisher of the works by K.Donelaitis was L. Rėza (he had published "The Seasons" in 1818, the fables in 1824). K.Donelaitis had written poems in German as well.

A. Strazdas ne visada laikydavosi dvasininkų luomo nuostatų, dėl to katalikų bažnyčios vyresnybės buvo nemėgstamas ir visaip persekiojamas. 1818m. Lietuvos evangelikų reformatų sinodas apskundė A. Strazdą konsistorijai už eilėraštį "Pagrabas Palšio", įdėtą į jo rinkinį. Poetas buvo priverstas aiškintis.
From 1790 he was a priest in different parishes of Eastern Highlands. A.Strazdas was not always following strict canons of priests' estate and the authorities of the Catholic church did not like him and persecuted. In 1818 the Synod of Lithuanian Evangelists Reformats had complained about his poem "A Funeral of Palšis" (Palšis is a name of a horse). The poet had to plead. In 1819 he had written an explanation which is the only authentic document in which he talked about his calling and the role of literature in life with inspiration.

J.Baltrušaitis was born on May 2, 1873, to a family of farmers in Paantvardis village near Jurbarkas. He acquired his primary education at home and under tuition of the local dean. In 1855 he entered Kaunas gymnasium, and graduated from there in 1893; then he entered the Faculty of Physical and mathematical sciences at Moscow University. At the same time he attended lectures at the Faculty of history and philology, and studied foreign languages. His studies were funded from private lessons. Since 1895 J.Baltrušaitis began to collaborate in Russian literary magazines. Together with S.Polyakov he established a publishing house "Scorpio" which published magazines and also collections of Baltrušaitis's verses.

Bendravo su išeivijos lietuviais inteligentais, aktyviai įsijungė į kultūrinę veiklą. 1950m. išėjo pirmasis A.Mackaus eilėraščių rinkinėlis Elegijos. 1954m. pradėjo bendradarbiauti literatūrinėje radijo valandėlėje "Pelkių Žiburėlis", tapo jos redaktoriumi.
For some time A.Mackus worked physical labour. He was associated with Lithuanian intellectuals in exile, vigorously participated in cultural activities. In 1950 was published the first modest selection of A.Mackus's verses "Elegies". In 1954 he began to cooperate at the literary radio broadcast "Pelkių Žiburėlis" (Will-o'-the-wisp), and later became its editor. In 1957-1958 A.Mackus studied Russian language and literature, as well as psychology, at Roosevelt University. In 1957 he began to work as announcer at "Margutis" (The Easter Egg) radio station, vigorously participated in activities of liberal academic organizations "Šviesa" (The Light), "Santara" (Concord). His main concern was to organize a foundation which would publish the books of most talented authors.

Vokiečiams uždarius Vilniaus universitetą, V.Mačernis grįžo į tėviškę ir gyveno iki 1944m. Ten gyvendamas, V.Mačernis kūrė eilėraščius ir laiškais siųsdavo draugams. Eilėraščius iš originalų persirašinėdavo kiti, nes V.Mačernio kūryba tuo metu buvo populiari moksleivių, studentų, jaunosios inteligentijos sluoksniuose.
Vytautas Mačernis was born on June 5, 1921, in Šarnelė, near Žemaičių Kalvarija. He went to Seda progymnasium, later to Telšiai gymnasium, which he had finished in 1939. In autumn of the same year he entered the Theology and Philosophy Faculty of Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, where studied English language and literature. In 1940 he moved to the Faculty of Humanitarian Sciences of Vilnius University. In 1941 he dropped English studies and began philosophy studies, which he continued until the closure of University in 1943. After the closure of University by Germans V.Mačernis returned to his native land and lived there until 1944. While being there, V.Mačernis wrote verses and sent them in letters to his friends. The verses were copied down by others, since by that time the works of V.Mačernis became popular among high school and University students and young intellectuals. In this way his poetry by manuscripts and copies became popular in Lithuania even before the death of a poet. When Bolshevik armies were forthcoming, V.Mačernis decided to retreat to the West, and perished near Žemaičių Kalvarija on October 7, 1944. He is buried in Šarnelė.
