Thanks to Al-Nasser’s efforts the General Assembly was, after the Security Council had been blocked, still able to adopt a strong resolution on 16 February 2012 with a considerable majority that condemns the violence and calls for a political solution. The Minister and the President welcomed the appointment of Mr Kofi Annan as joint UN and Arab League special envoy.

En ce qui concerne la Syrie, Didier Reynders a félicité le Président Al-Nasser pour son  leadership, qui a permis à l'Assemblée Générale, suite au blocage au Conseil de Sécurité, d'adopter le 16 février dernier à une très large majorité une résolution forte condamnant les violences et appelant à une solution politique. Dans ce contexte, le Ministre et le Président ont salué la désignation de M. Kofi Annan comme Envoyé spécial conjoint des Nations Unies et de la Ligue Arabe. Ils ont réaffirmé leur engagement à ne pas lui ménager leur appui.
