Lo dice el maestro Yoda –ese diminuto ser que debería haber fundado su propia religión por el bien de la humanidad y que al que Marcos tiene como uno de sus incuestionables gurús ideológicos-: “Hazlo o no lo hagas, pero no lo intentes”. Así, cuenta el intrépido artista que en una de las últimas impresiones de sus espectaculares serigrafías, esa sensación que suele suceder al parto –la del alivio y la satisfacción- no llegó del todo, o al menos, lo hizo de manera mitigada, un tanto sorda. Hacía falta algo más. Y ese algo más era ¡pasar al formato tridimensional! Que las obras cobraran vida, luz, y relieve. Que adquirieran cuerpo y volumen. Dicho y hecho. El lema de The Smiths, “Hang the DJ”, que Marcos había convertido previamente en suyo, se hizo carne. Leds, una caja de aluminio, una soga en madera lacada, vinilo, neon… “¡Qué disfrute!” relata el artista. “El proceso, maravilloso, orgásmico. El resultado, espectacular. Todos los que llegan a mi estudio sin esperárselo, y lo ven encendido, ahí en la pared, se quedan con los ojos abiertos como platos… (risas)” Y esto sólo es el principio, uno más en la larga carrera de Marcos Marcos. In addi­tion to poli­tical objec­tives, OBOR brings a stra­tegic focus which encou­rages Chinese firms to go abroad in search of new markets or invest­ment oppor­tu­nities. Led from the highest levels of the govern­ment the OBOR push is backed by substan­tial finan­cial fire­power, with the govern­ment has laun­ching a US$ 50 bn. Silk Road Fund that will directly support the OBOR mission. While the stra­tegy promises oppor­tu­nities for domestic compa­nies, the route is unli­kely to be an even one. The proposed coun­tries range from Sing­a­pore to Syria. The compa­nies involved could be heading into terri­to­ries that may be stra­te­gi­cally important for China’s foreign rela­tions, but chal­len­ging to navi­gate.

The head study of Van Dyck is also a capital acquisition and a key piece for the collection of the KMSKA. The work of art perfectly supplements the collection of 17th-century oil painting studies because it is a head study, a type that up until now was not represented in the collection.

Openbare verzamelingen in Vlaanderen bewaren uitzonderlijk weinig voorbeelden die het creatief proces van Van Dyck illustreren. De studiekop van Van Dyck is dan ook een kapitale aanwinst en een sleutelwerk voor de collectie van het KMSKA. Het kunstwerk vult de collectie 17de-eeuwse olieverfstudies perfect aan omdat het een hoofdstudie is, een type dat tot nog toe niet in de collectie vertegenwoordigd was. Het zal een belangrijke rol spelen in de herinrichting van de collectiepresentatie van het museum.
