The programme is in English Language and foreign students are required to take Turkish courses in order to learn adequate Turkish to communicate with patients in hospitals. During the first three years of core preclinical training, the curriculum encompasses student-centered training in basic sciences, ethics, application of evidence based medicine principles, development of professional skills as well as special study modules on human sciences, behavioral science, philosophy, natural science, social sciences, communication skills, arts and IT classes of their choice. During the fourth and fifth years, students are provided with applied practices such as the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. During their final year, students take an active role in patient care under the supervision of their instructors. Students may also benefit from one of the elective courses on “family medicine”.

Upon their admission to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, students are offered modern undergraduate programs which are compatible with the requirements of the current age. Mathematics and Computer Science and Molecular Biology and Genetics programs are delivered in English whereas the medium of instruction in Turkish Language and Literature Program is Turkish. The faculty also offers two identical Psychology undergraduate programs delivered in English and Turkish. Translation and Interpretation undergraduate program not only gives the students the opportunity of developing themselves in Turkish, English and French but also equips them with necessary skills for translation theory and techniques as well as simultaneous conference translation. All undergraduate curricula is prepared and reviewed in line with the principles and values specified as part of the Bologna Process determined by the Leuven Declaration in 2009. On completing their undergraduate studies, our students find themselves ready and competent to find jobs in the most sought-after professions according to their knowledge and skills, and can study further to become faculty members in their related fields at universities after completing their graduate studies in the fields they have chosen, or they can be employed as teachers upon completing their pedagogical formation program.

At EPS/TPS, language learning is viewed as a developmental, interactive and reflective process. Accordingly, the students’ exposure and the use of the language in class as well as outside class (e.g., via the Students’ Self Study Centre, Civic Involvement Projects and excursions) are emphasized. To this end, the courses are designed not only to support students’ language development by means of the provision of on-going feedback and extensive support on their achievement of the learning outcomes but also to foster life-long learning. In this regard, in the course of the students learning experiences at EPS, the students’ own reflection on their progress as well as their planning of their study-time in the light of this reflection together with the support of their teachers is promoted through EPS/TPS Portfolio work. The students are also provided with course material (e.g., coursebooks, resource books, graded readers) which is aligned with the course objectives.
