Im Nahen und Mittleren Osten zeigt sich diese Spaltung immer intensiver. Sie ist unersättlich in ihrem Versuch, alles Leben zu vernichten, und sie wird es nie müde, auch die kleinsten Keime möglicher Hoffnung vollkommen zu zerstören.

In the Near and Middle East this very division is manifesting itself as ever more lacerating, inappeasable in its annihilation of all signs of life, never satisfied with its total destruction, even of the smallest buds that open to hope. The images that come to us from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen of stray and frightened refugees, victims of suicide bombers, camps of refugees exhausted with resignation, survivors of deadly gas, buildings in rubble, skeletal palaces, churches profaned, all testify to an endemic conflict that like a monster feeds on its wickedness. And it shows no sign of stopping given the converging resources of powers, some far from the area, determined to assert their own interests, which are above all economic and strategic (even nuclear), or their own political-religious primacy. The increased rivalries between nations and peoples of the region have complicated and aggravated the persistent Israeli-Palestinian tensions.

Proprio nel Vicino e Medio Oriente questa divisione sta manifestandosi sempre più lacerante, inappagabile nell’annientamento di ogni segno di vita, mai sazia della distruzione totale, anche dei più piccoli germogli che aprono alla speranza. Le immagini che ci giungono da Siria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen di profughi vaganti e impauriti, di vittime di attentatori suicidi, di campi per rifugiati sfiniti dalla rassegnazione, di scampati ai gas mortali, di edifici in macerie, di palazzi ischeletriti, di chiese profanate, testimoniano di una conflittualità endemica che come un mostro si nutre delle sue malvagità. E non accenna a esaurirsi per le risorse convergenti di potenze, alcune lontane dall’area, determinate ad affermare i propri interessi, soprattutto economici e strategici (persino nucleari), o la propria primazia politico-religiosa. Le accresciute rivalità tra nazioni e popoli della regione hanno complicato e aggravato, anche le persistenti tensioni israelo-palestinesi.
