In the last two decades the OAS has played a key role in the efforts to eliminate anti-personnel mines in the Western Hemisphere. The program initially focused on Central America and soon spread to other countries of the hemisphere where such munitions are still a threat. Its contribution was decisive to the declaration in 2010 of Central America as a mine-free zone, a milestone that represents a significant achievement in promoting the goals of peace and security in the Americas.

Outreach activities included NEXUS Marine briefings to local marina and yacht club owners in the pilot project zone. A news release was issued to the local media. Press kits were distributed at boat shows. NEXUS Marine information was posted on CBP and CBSA Web sites. Articles were published in boating magazines and local newspapers, and NEXUS Marine pamphlets were distributed to NEXUS Highway members who crossed the border by car in the Windsor/Detroit area. Letters were sent to CANPASS Private Boat participants, informing them about NEXUS Marine. CBP's Web site included information on their policy of allowing boaters to use a NEXUS Marine membership in lieu of the I-68 process to land in the U.S.

Les gestionnaires de NEXUS Maritime à l'ASFC ont demandé l'ajout de NEXUS Maritime à un plan de marketing qu'un entrepreneur externe avait déjà commencé à élaborer pour NEXUS Autoroutes. Le plan de marketing est arrivé trop tard pour le projet pilote maritime. Cependant, la Direction des communications et de la consultation a fourni un plan de communication et des produits ciblés afin d'appuyer le lancement du projet pilote, y comrpis un communiqué de presse, des pochettes de presse, des avis publics dans des médias sélectionnés, des articles généraux pour les magazines de navigation plaisancière et des journaux locaux, une brochure, des affiches, un guide pour les membres et des messages sur le site Web. La distribution de brochures et de pochettes de presse à des salons nautiques et à des personnes franchissant la frontière en voiture ont donné certains résultats : au 25 novembre 2005, 1 061 demandes d'adhésion avaient été reçues et 779 membres étaient inscrits [ 16 ].

Krill along the British Columbia coast range up to 25 mm (1") in length, but average 16 mm (5/8") in length. Krill undergo a daily 'diurnal' cycle, where they spend the daylight hours in the twilight depths of the ocean (~100 m or 300'), out of sight of their predators (mainly finfish and baleen whales). As the daylight decreases, the krill rise to the surface to feed in the dark on phytoplankton. In the morning, as the sky gets brighter, the krill will return to the twilight zone. A clear day may push the krill as deep as 150 m (450'); on a cloudy day, the krill may be at depths of only 60 m (180'). Krill are not distributed evenly within a body of water; they form characteristic 'clouds' or patches of high biomass in some areas, whereas other areas may be devoid of krill.

Le jour, ils habitent les profondeurs crépusculaires de l'océan (~100 m ou 300') pour se cacher de leurs prédateurs. (principalement les poissons osseux et les baleines à fanons). La nuit, ils remontent en surface pour se nourrir du phytoplancton. Aux premiers rayons de soleil, le krill replonge vers les profondeurs. Le krill peut plonger jusqu'à 150 m (450 ') de profondeur par un jour clair; tandis que par un jour nuageux, le krill peut être à seulement 60 m (180 ') de profondeur. Les krills ne sont pas distribués uniformément dans une masse d'eau; ils voyagent souvent en essaims gigantesques provoquant une très forte biomasse dans certaines régions, tandis que d'autres régions peuvent être dépourvues de krill.
