Such was the 1950s in Czechoslovakia. It took a little less than six years for the completion of a sculptural group towering more than 15 metres in height. Stalin did not live to see the statue. And the statue itself did not survive long after his death. A few years after its completion, the monument, which was to be proof of the love of the working people for the great leader, became a huge stony problem. It survived Khrushchev’s criticism of the cult of personality, but when Stalin’s mummy was removed from the mausoleum on Red Square, comrades in Prague had to address the question of how to get rid of the monument, which was supposed to have endured “for all time”.

Zunächst überstand die Statue zwar die Kritik Chrustschows am Personenkult unbeschadet, als jedoch sogar Stalins Mumie aus dem Mausoleum am Roten Platz in Moskau entfernt wurde, begann die kommunistische Führung in Prag die Frage zu erörtern, wie man ein Denkmal, das für die „Ewigkeit geschaffen“ war, doch noch los werden könnte.

Así era la década de los cincuenta en la entonces Checoslovaquia. Pasaron apenas seis años cuando el grupo escultórico con una altura que superaba los 15 metros fue terminado. Stalin no llegó a ver su estatua. Y tampoco la estatua misma vivió muchos años más que él. El monumento, que debía de ser una prueba de amor del pueblo de trabajadores hacia el gran líder, se convirtió, pocos años después de ser acabado, en un enorme problema de piedra. Sobrevivió a la crítica al culto de la personalidad pronunciada por Kruschev, pero cuando la momia de Stalin fue sacada del mausoleo de la Plaza Roja de Moscú, los camaradas de Praga empezaron a ocuparse de la cuestión sobre cómo desprenderse del monumento que en un principio duraría “para siempre”.

Il monumento, che doveva essere un pegno d'amore della classe operaia di allora alla grande guida, di colpo divenne un enorme problema di pietra. Sopravvisse ancora alla critica di Krusciov al culto della persona, ma quando dal mausoleo della piazza Rossa venne eliminata la mummia di Stalin, anche i compagni praghesi iniziarono a porsi il problema sul metodo migliore per eliminare di questo monumento, costruito per durare "in eternità".

Podpisy udało się zebrać w ciągu czterech dni. W tym samym roku zadecydowano również, że w Pradze powstanie na dowód miłości dla wodza największy pomnik na świecie. Takie były lata pięćdziesiąte w ówczesnej Czechosłowacji. Budowa ponad 15 metrowej grupy rzeźb zajęła niecałe sześć lat. Stalin już się tego nie dożył. A sama rzeźba też nie miała długiego życia. Z pomniku, który miał być dowodem miłości ludu pracującego tamtych czasów dla wielkiego przywódcy, już kilka lat po dokończeniu stał się kamienny problem. Krytykę ideologiczną Chruszczowa jeszcze przeżył, ale po usunięciu mumii Stalina z mauzoleum na Placu Czerwonym, nawet towarzysze w Pradze zaczęli zadawać sobie pytanie, w jaki sposób pozbyć się dowodu miłości na „wieczne czasy“.

In the process, he climbed most of the summits, many of which were still embedded in the eternal ice, and drew up a valuable treatise with corresponding sketches. The famous English landscape painter E. T. Compton also visited the Texel group in order to portray the wild diversity of the nature on canvas. From the vine to the firn; the diversity and contrasts in this compact mountain region can hardly be described. An altitude difference of almost 3,000m presents the mountaineer with the entire range of South Tyrolean climate zones, which stretch from the upper boundary of the sub-Mediterranean vegetation belt to the nival zone. Mention must also be made of the animal world here, which on account of its diversity unquestionably places this alpine landscape on a par with the large mountain regions in the Alps. Following the sensational discovery of the “Ice Man”, archaeological digs were conducted in the Schnalstal, Vinschgau and Austrian Venter Tal valleys and it was thus possible for seven cross-border, cross-community archaeological hiking trails to be defined (which for South Tyrol was unique). Particularly important discovery sites are marked by copper panels on which the most important information can be read in condensed form. The relevant hiking trails are distinguished by a special type of marking, namely the stylised axe from the many trappings of the “glacier mummy”. This “Similaun man”, affectionately referred to as “Ötzi” has gained world renown. He astonished people and fascinated scientists like no other human discovery before. The ice man was found around 5,300 years after his death on one of the Schnalstal three-thousand metre high promontories, the Tisenjoch pass. A visit to the archaeological park is worthwhile. This is a discovery centre attached to open terrain offering a documentary exhibition on the habitat of the “Ice Man”. The themes presented cover the oldest human life traces in the alpine region through to the “Ice Man” and his lifestyle and farming methods. The annual sheep transhumance in mid-June from Vernagt and Kurzras over the Niederjoch and Hochjoch passes to the pastureland in the Austrian Ötztal valley is a special attraction in the Schnalstal valley. Dabei bestieg er die meisten Gipfel, von denen noch viele ins ewige Eis gebettet waren, und erstellte eine wertvolle Abhandlung mit den dazugehörigen Skizzen. Auch der berühmte englische Landschaftsmaler E. T. Compton besuchte die Texelgruppe, um die wilde Vielfalt der Natur auf Leinwand zu übertragen. Von der Rebe bis zum Firn; besser lässt sich die Vielfalt und Gegensätzlichkeit dieser kompakten Bergregion wohl kaum umschreiben. Ein Höhenunterschied von fast 3000 m präsentiert dem Bergwanderer die gesamte Fülle der Südtiroler Klimazonen, die von der Obergrenze der submediterranen Vegetationsstufe bis hin zur nivalen Zone reichen. Nicht zu vergessen ist die Tierwelt dieser Alpenlandschaft, die sich ob ihrer Vielfalt ohne weiteres mit den großen Bergregionen der Alpen messen kann. Aufgrund des sensationellen Fundes des „Mannes aus dem Eis“ wurden im Schnalstal, Vinschgau und im österreichischen Venter Tal archäologische Nachgrabungen durchgeführt und somit konnten (für Südtirol einmalig) sieben grenzen- und gemeinde-überschreitende archäologische Wanderwege definiert werden. Besonders wichtige Fundstellen sind vor Ort mit Kupfertafeln gekennzeichnet, auf denen in geraffter Form die wichtigsten Angaben zu lesen sind. Die betreffenden Wanderwege sind durch eine besondere Markierung gekennzeichnet, nämlich durch die stilisierte Axt aus der reichen Ausrüstung der „Gletschermumie“. Als "Similaun-Mann", liebevoll „Ötzi“ genannt, ist sein Name um die Welt gegangen. Er hat die Menschen in Staunen versetzt und die Wissenschaftler fasziniert wie kaum ein Menschenfund zuvor. Auf einem der Schnalstaler Dreitausender, dem Tisenjoch, wurde der Eismann rund 5300 Jahre nach seinem Tod gefunden. Besuchenswert ist der Archäopark, ein Erlebnishaus mit angeschlossenem Freigelände, das eine Dokumentationsausstellung über den Lebensraum des "Mannes aus dem Eis" beherbergt. Dabei werden Themen von den ältesten menschlichen Spuren im Alpenraum bis zum "Mann aus dem Eis" und seiner Lebens- und Wirtschaftsweise dargestellt. Eine besondere Attraktion im Schnalstal ist der jährlich Mitte Juni stattfindende Schafübertrieb von Vernagt und Kurzras aus über das Nieder- bzw. Compton visitò il Gruppo di Tessa, per riportare sulla tela la varietà selvaggia della natura. Dai vigneti ai ghiacciai, questa la formula che meglio rappresenta la varietà e i contrasti di questa regione montuosa molto compatta. Una variazione di quota di quasi 3000m presenta all'escursionista l'intera ricchezza delle zone climatiche dell'Alto Adige, che spaziano dal limite superiore della flora sub-mediterranea fino alla zona delle nevi. Da non dimenticare il mondo animale di questo ambiente alpino, che per la sua varietà compete con le grandi regioni delle Alpi. Dopo la sensazionale scoperta dell'uomo dei ghiacci furono intrapresi scavi archeologici in Val Senales, Val Venosta e nella valle Venter Tal, in Austria, e grazie a ciò si poterono definire sette sentieri archeologici che travalicano confini di stato e di comune (prima assoluta per l'Alto Adige). I ritrovamenti particolarmente significativi sono segnalati sul posto con tavole di rame che riportano in forma concisa le informazioni più importanti. Questi sentieri archeologici sono riconoscibili dalla particolare segnaletica cioè l'ascia stilizzata che faceva parte dell'equipaggiamento della mummia dei ghiacci, conosciuta in tutto il mondo con il nome di "Uomo del Similaun" o con l'affettuoso nomignolo di "Ötzi". E' stato un ritrovamento che ha stupito tutti e affascinato gli studiosi come nessun altro mai. Fu rinvenuto al Passo di Tisa, uno dei 3000m della Val Senales, 5300 anni dopo la sua morte. Merita una visita il parco archeologico, Archäopark, un museo interattivo con spazio all’aperto, che ospita una mostra illustrativa dello spazio in cui viveva l’"uomo dei ghiacci". In essa vengono trattati temi che spaziano dalle più antiche tracce umane nell’area alpina fino all’"uomo dei ghiacci" e al suo modo di vita e alle sue attività. Un’attrattiva particolare della Val Senales è l’annuale transumanza delle pecore da Vernago e Kurzras attraverso il Giogo Basso o il Giogo Alto fino ai pascoli austriaci della valle Ötztal a metà giugno.
