Il vérifie en particulier le compte d’Etat de la Confédération pour un volume de dépenses supérieur à 50 milliards de francs, mais aussi, par exemple, le compte du Fonds pour les grands projets ferroviaires, de la Régie fédérale des alcools, de l’Institut de la propriété intellectuelle, de Swissmedic ou de l’EPF ainsi que d’organisations internationales (UIT, OMPI, UPU).

It assumes responsibilty for important audit mandates. In particular it audits the State Account with an expenditure volume of over 50 billion Swiss francs. Additionally, it also audits, for example, the accounts of the Foundation for Large-scale Railway Projects, the Swiss Alcohol Board, the Institute for Intellectual Property, Swissmedic and the ETH (the Federal Institutes of Technology), as well as the accounts of international organisations (ITU, WIPO, World Postal Union). In carrying out these various audit mandates, the SFAO examines the correctness of accounts with respect to form and content, in the same way as would an auditing company.

Sie nimmt wichtige Kontrollstellenmandate wahr. Sie prüft insbesondere die Staatsrechnung des Bundes mit einem Ausgabenvolumen von über 50 Milliarden Franken, daneben aber beispielsweise auch die Rechnung des Fonds für Eisenbahn-Grossprojekte, der Eidgenössischen Alkoholverwaltung, des Instituts für Geistiges Eigentum, der Swissmedic oder der ETH sowie von Internationalen Organisationen (UIT, OMPI, UPU). Bei diesen Kontrollstellenmandaten prüft die EFK wie eine Treuhandfirma die formelle und materielle Richtigkeit der Rechnungen.
