3.  Continuing down Nerudova. As you continue down the street you’ll notice that Nerudova boasts an appealing assortment of little old burgher houses, which are now mostly occupied by quaint souvenir shops and cosy restaurants – but look closer and you’ll also see that none of the houses have numbers. You see, house numbering is only a recent innovation in Prague – they were only introduced in 1770 – and prior to that buildings were distinguished by house signs above the main door. So as you walk along this ancient walkway, you will see many curious sets of symbols above doorways which correspond the building’s name.

Paganica beans, imported from France, played an important role in the diet of the local population, when their cultivation was extremely widespread. They were used for soups, salads, pasta or ground into flour. The classic cultivation of scaffolding with reeds or ditches covers the entire area of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park; it is sown in late spring and harvested by hand at the end of summer. There are two Paganica bean ecotypes, both with white flowers and climbing beans up to two metres high when supported by wooden poles. The only difference is the colour of the bean: the bread bean (or 'oil bean') is between beige and hazelnut and has a central eye, while the white bean (or 'pea bean') is ivory white and slightly round. The latter is softer than the "oil", which retains more flavor after cooking. Both are very good with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper or in the typical soup with cheek and homemade bread.

The ultimate rewards come to those who have enough strength to tackle this demanding yet scenic segment. From Lizumer Hut, the trail rounds below Sonnenspitze to Geiermulde and Pluderlingsattel Saddle (Geierjoch Col), which offers sweeping views of nearby mountains, glaciers and valleys. Peak baggers can nab the summit of 2,857-meter Hoher Geier Peak. From Pluderlingsattel Saddle, Trail No. 323 steeply winds down to Junssee Lake and pristine “Tote Böden”, an area of awesome natural beauty. The trail resumes its climb up Geschützspitzsattel Saddle and descends steep grassy slopes on its way down into Weitental Valley. The final push to Tuxerjoch Col is a steep grade that will take you up, up, up to Tuxerjochhaus Lodge. The rewards for the efforts of the day are great—the lodge will have you hopping with joy with its nonstop horizon-spanning views of jagged ridges and colossal summits named Olperer, Gefrorene Wand and Riffler.

Read the articles). To do this, a project called Energy Eur has been developed, imagining electrical and thermal power generation systems involving two co-generation plants, located within the pentagon and connected by means of a high energy-efficiency, remote distribution ring - laid within the 19 Km of galleries already present - that might serve the various users, starting from the Rome Convention Center La Nuvola and going on to the museums, to the Ministerial offices, to large companies, giving a reduction in pollutant emissions. Also, given the 70 hectares of green belt, a lighting plan for EUR's parks has been imagined: technological lamp posts equipped with video cameras, SOS systems, wi-fi, which are already widely used in the parks and gardens managed by EUR SpA. All this would allow greater control of public areas, making these spaces - which are currently almost all without lighting - safer and more liveable even during the hours of darkness. The lamp posts could also support electric power points for cars and bikes, to help encourage the use of electric vehicles, particularly in view of the fact that car sharing is already widely used in the district.

Time has stopped“Even though it happened unintentionally, 'Basilicata Coast to Coast' has become a marketing tool and I don't mind at all”, says Papaleo. 'While we were still shooting the movie I realized that it could become one. The movie was so successful thanks to a network of volunteer promoters, the people from Lucania who live elsewhere. And we are many!” Francis Ford Coppola, for one... Yet there was a time when Basilicata represented the South that had been left to its own devices by the Italian State, forgotten, rural, backward and steeped in an archaic culture made up of legends, traditions and even magic. When Carlo Levi wrote Christ Stopped at Eboli, in which he narrated his confinement in Aliano, Basilicata became the icon of the underdevelopment of the entire Southern part of Italy, with highwaymen that were more frightening to the politicians than to the peasants. In 1979, Francesco Rosi chose the great Gian Maria Volonté to play the Turinese writer in the movie based on the book. It was a time when the Southern Italian question still represented an open wound, which Rosi did not fail to emphasize visually, by showing how the isolation of the 1930s was not only a matter of infrastructure, but also of human and social development. The film was shot between Aliano, Craco and Guardia Perticara, where the production found the intense landscape that was needed; by the end of the 1970s, other areas of the region had seen their share of modernity, with new buildings and electric poles. But it was the entire area that fascinated the director. 'It would be enough to dwell on the scenery - the countryside, the trees, the sky, the uneven fields, the barren hills, the lonely trails captured on camera, to see the quintessential image of a sort of atavistic fatality, of an immutable destiny'.

ADSL puts Swisscom in strong competition with the cable network operators. With a total of around 160,000 activated accesses in the Swiss market (at end-October 2002), ADSL is proving increasingly popular with SMEs (small and mid-sized enterprises). Compared to other Internet access technologies, ADSL offers many advantages: speed, availability, ease of use, reliability (telephone networks are among the most stable infrastructures in the world) and security (point-to-point connectivity between the user and the provider). On top of its hitherto ADSL offering (for residential customers), Swisscom Fixnet Wholesale launched a new package this autumn for business customers. The business offering covers bandwidths ranging from 512 kbit/s to 2 Mbit/s.
