De kern van de tentoonstelling bestaat uit post-mortem foto’s die op een intieme en inlevende wijze verslag geven van de dood als stilleven. Voor veel professionele fotografen in de 19e eeuw behoorde het portretteren van dode mensen – de post-mortem fotografie – namelijk tot de vaste praktijk; men adverteerde er zelfs mee. Pasgestorvenen werden op serene wijze in hun eeuwige slaap vastgelegd, met name jonge kinderen werden op hun doodsbedje geportretteerd. In de tentoonstelling zijn naast historische ook hedendaagse doodsportretten opgenomen, die als gemeenschappelijk kenmerk hebben dat het beeld in dienst staat van troost en gedenken. Fotografen Koos Breukel, Rachel Corner, Hylke Schoot, Hape Smeele, F. Starik, Chantal Spieard en Wim van Ophem tonen de laatste opnames van familie en intimi; Anton Corbijn en Paul Blanca fotografeerden hun opgebaarde kunstbroeders Herman Brood en Peter Giele; Marrie Bot registreerde situaties van door de politie aangetroffen doden. In tegenstelling tot deze empatische vormen zijn er ook afstandelijker en klinischer foto’s te zien, die schoonheid en universaliteit van de dood benadrukken. De serene doodsportretten van Andres Serrano, Rudolf Schäfer, Cedric Bregnard, Daniel & Geo Fuchs zijn eigenlijk moderne versies van het gezegde memento mori: gedenk te sterven.

In tegenstelling tot Al Ani vertegenwoordigt Akam Shex Hadi (°1985) een latere generatie van Iraakse fotografen. Met zijn geënsceneerde, symbolische werken heeft hij deelgenomen aan fotografiefestivals in heel Azië en het Midden-Oosten. Net als Haider Jabbar toont hij zich in zijn werk bezorgd over de opgang van ISIS en de vluchtelingencrisis. Voor het Paviljoen heeft hij een nieuw werk gecreëerd dat uit 28 foto’s bestaat. Een terugkerend motief in de reeks is een draad die zich ontrolt. Hij lijkt op een slang maar blijkt de vlag van ISIS te zijn – een voortdurende herinnering aan de verstrikkende eigenschappen van de groepering. Shex Hadi presenteert ook een reeks luchtfoto’s die iets afbeelden dat eruitziet als een groot uurwerk op de grond, behalve dat de cijfers niet op hun gebruikelijke plaats staan. Een voorover liggende figuur die een wijzer van het uurwerk voorstelt, maakt van het werk een overpeinzing over de menselijke capitulatie voor de tijd, een soort memento mori.

The only note-management package I could find that would support my smart collection needs is Mori, but it’s lagging on the other aspects: I find it weaker than Yojimbo at one-liner management (though I couldn’t quite pinpoint why) and, more importantly, it doesn’t do web archives, but simply creates a hyperlink when you drop a web shortcut onto it.

Le seul logiciel de gestion de notes que j’aie pu trouver qui aie des fonctionnalités complètes à ce niveau est Mori, mais il est à la traîne sur les autres points : je le trouve pire que Yojimbo pour gérer des to-do d’une ligne (même si je ne saurais pas bien expliquer pourquoi) et, surtout, il ne fait pas d’archives web mais stocke juste un lien hypertexte quand on lui glisse un raccourci dessus. Ca n’a aucun intérêt, on ne peut pas faire confiance à Internet pour garder ad vitam aeternam les informations dont on a besoin (et qu’elles ne changent pas de place, en plus).
