Nancy è una città che ha ricevuto un sigillo di nobiltà e di bellezza dal Re Stanislao di Polonia. Mentre essa era prima divisa in due unità distinte, il Re riusci a collegarle e a fonderle in una sola città, realizzando un magnifico centro, di grande qualità architettonica e urbanistica, proprio nello spazio interstiziale che separava le due entità. A pochi passi da questo centro, l'apertura di un bacino collegato alla Meurthe, originariamente pensato come spazio di diporto, è invece degenerata col tempo in una parte vuota e abbandonata della città, in una separazione fra il centro e la periferia. Lo scopo del nuovo progetto Stanislas-Meurthe a cui Mazzucconi si è applicato dal 1978, prima con un incarico del Ministero della Cultura e poi partecipando a un concorso,è quindi quello di riunire queste due parti della città, in modo simile a quanto Stanislao aveva già fatto, conferendo alla zona del Canale una funzione e una dignità architettonica. Il progetto che, con vari mezzi, ridisegna e rivitalizza la zona, comporta alcuni eventi architettonici di primo piano.
