Inside the hall was a 1600's construction of the Church of S. Urbano which was destroyed during the 1930's. This church, together with the connected Convent, was dated to being originally constructed between 1263-1264.

Legend has it that Hercules fell in love with a nymph called Amalfi, a love which was cruelly ended by her death. The nymph was then buried in this, the most beautiful place in the world, and the city which was built here was named after her. It is not by chance that Amalfi, an ancient maritime Republic, is the heart of this stretch of coast, the famous Amalfi Coast, an International tourist destination, attracting those lured by its uniquely colored sea.

She was roused to action during the Second Age when the Balrog known as Tar Goroth rose to menace the surface world. A creature of devastating power, Tar Goroth was responsible for the destruction of much of Carnán's ancient forest, and the creatures who lived within it. This set the stage for a battle that ultimately ended with Tar Goroth buried deep in the pits of Gorgoroth.

In perspective, as already mentioned, there is also the recovery to the theatrical complex of the medieval castle which, exploiting its powerful structures, was built on the ancient southern entrance and preserves important remains inside. It should not be forgotten that, alongside the most evident result of the excavation campaigns, consisting of the regained monumental emergency, there is a whole series of materials of different characteristics that already constitutes the initial nucleus for an antiquarium of the ancient Peltuinum.

The Vatican Gardens have been a place of quiet and meditation for the popes since 1279 when Nicholas III (Giovanni Gaetano Orsini, 1277-1280) moved his residence back to the Vatican from the Lateran Palace. Within the new walls, which he had built to protect his residence, he planted an orchard (pomerium), a lawn (pratellum) and a garden (viridarium). The event is recorded among other places on a stone plaque which can be viewed in the “Sala dei Capitani” of the “Palazzo dei Conservatori” on Rome’s Capitoline Hill. Created around the hill of Saint Egidio (where the “Palazzetto del Belvedere” is located today) and the courtyards of the Vatican Museums, this was to be the first garden in the Vatican. However, should you visit the Vatican Gardens today you would begin by viewing a totally different area from that first orchard, one located in a more recent addition to what is now Vatican City State. It is there that larger and more recent gardens have been planted, covering together with the original garden about half of the 44 hectares of Vatican City.

The square was conceived to host the Palazzo which would welcome the "capitano del popolo", a new personality who, as of 1250, would assist the consoli and the podesta in governing the town. Therefore as soon as that new role gained political influence, that is around 1250, this area was cleared and pre-existing constructions were demolished so that a proper seat for the capitano to carry out his duties could be built and the widest square in town was born between 1281 and 1284.

The Foundation started in 1964 with the aim of creating a cultural institution able to exploit a great cultural heritage in the context of socio-economic sciences, with maximum flexibility. Historical, economic and sociological interests, which were at the centre of Luigi Einaudi’s arduous industriousness and were reflected in his vast library, were still minor disciplines in Italy at that time. However, the goal of the Foundation was not merely the conservation of the Einaudian cultural legacy but, on the contrary, its reuse as an active resource in an effort to promote the evolution and development of economic, historical-economic and social studies.

It was built on the remainings of some buildings dating back to the second half of C.I, but the transformation into church very probably dates back to the era under Giustino II (567-578). It was often restored during the centuries. In 847, probably due to a earthquake, the church was abandoned but not forgotten. During C. XIII the church of S. Maria Liberatrice welled up on its ruins, where according to the legend Silvestro I defeated a dragon. The restoration of the antique S. Maria and the consequent demolition of the most recent church was decided in the early C. XX. The interior is based on three naves with small chapels in the end of the minor naves. Very interesting are also the two niches that can admire by the sides of the hall, probably dating back to the period before the collapse in C. IX.
