If you were on a deserted island, what would you want to have with you? I, for one, a computer with internet access :). I cannot imagine how people lived before the invention of the computer, I am convinced that I was born in the right century! My name is Daniel Griza, I am sixteen years old and Edelweiss Foundation’s ambassador. This year I have got the maximum score and the first place at Republican Computer Science Olympiad. I have also brought home several gold and silver medals from national and international competitions. But I am very proud of the medal won at Clock Tower School Romania 2012 contest, where I competed with dedicated IT teams from countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Romania, which are much more developed in training for Olympics in IT.
Dacă aţi fi pe o insulă pustie, ce aţi dori să aveţi cu dumneavoastră? Eu, unul, un computer cu acces la internet :) Nu îmi imaginez cum trăiau oamenii înainte de inventarea informaticii, sunt convins că m-am născut în secolul potrivit! Numele meu este Daniel Griza, am 16 ani şi sunt ambasador Edelweiss. Anul acesta am obţinut şi locul I şi punctajul maxim la olimpiada republicană de informatică, am şi mai multe medalii de aur şi argint câştigate la competiţii naţionale şi internaţionale. Ţin însă foarte mult la o medalie câştigată la concursul Clock Tower School Romania 2012, unde am concurat cu echipe consacrate în IT din ţări precum Indonezia, Filipine, Bulgaria, România, care au un nivel mult mai dezvoltat în pregătirea olimpicilor în domeniul IT.

Waking up from a good night's rest in the comfort of your own bed after a long vacation, only to realize that you might need another one... A post-vacation vacation is probably what many people feel that they need when they realize how much has to be done once they're back to normality at home. It may well have been a fun-filled vacation with new memories to keep but getting back on track is hard work on its own. At least, that’s how it is for me. I also feel this way after every weekend. Monday mornings are the hardest because I am always thinking about the hectic schedule I have lined up for the week. I look at my watch and realize I'm running late for work, and have to jump out of bed to get ready as quickly as I can. On my way out, I check the time again, grab my briefcase and get right into the day with a quick stop at the coffee shop downstairs for a take-out doughnut to eat en route to work. The thought of how I'd managed to completely lose track of time during the past two weeks away is bittersweet. Living off the clock without having to think about much of anything was amazing, but I am glad to be back on the go and getting life done, with my watch keeping me on time for the meetings and social gatherings I had planned for the week.
Se réveiller d’une bonne nuit de sommeil dans le confort de son propre lit après de longues vacances et réaliser que l’on repartirait volontiers... Des vacances après les vacances : c’est probablement ce à quoi nous rêvons tous lorsque nous réalisons la quantité de choses que nous avons à faire en retrouvant notre quotidien. Bien sûr, ces vacances auront peut-être été incroyables et riches en souvenirs, mais se remettre sur les rails est une véritable épreuve. Du moins, c’en est une pour moi. J’ai également ce sentiment après chaque week-end, car affronter le lundi matin est ce qu’il y a de plus pénible quand je pense à l’emploi du temps chargé qui m’attend pour la semaine. Je regarde ma montre et je réalise que je suis en retard pour aller travailler, je saute hors du lit pour me préparer aussi vite que possible. En partant, je vérifie l’heure à nouveau, j’attrape ma mallette et je commence ma journée en m’arrêtant rapidement pour acheter un croissant au café d’en bas. Je le mangerai pendant le trajet. J’ai un pincement au cœur en pensant à la façon dont j’ai réussi à perdre toute notion du temps pendant mes deux semaines de vacances. Ne plus avoir à regarder l’heure ni à réfléchir à quoi que ce soit était délicieux, mais j’étais ravi de me remettre dans le mouvement et de pouvoir compter sur ma montre pour être à l’heure aux réunions et aux sorties notées dans mon agenda de la semaine.

To facilitate the exchange of information between the political body and the science and technology authorities and to establish clear communication channels, COMCYT agreed to recommend that all member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) designate, through their National Liaison Organ (ONE), a National Organ on Science and Technology (ONCYT), whenever possible, which will be the institution or person that will represent that member state at COMCYT meetings. It was also agreed to recommend that the OAS Permanent Missions designate a point of contact for science and technology issues within their Missions and, if possible, a backup for when the first contact is not available. Finally, the Committee agreed that the information on these contacts (institutions or people) should be sent, as soon as possible, to the Technical Secretariat of COMCYT at the OAS Office of Science and Technology, so that these lists could be drawn up and published on a web page. If possible, all points of contact should provide e-mail addresses (several if possible) to facilitate the communication flow.
