Nous étudions la structure des noyaux exotiques, très riches en neutrons dans la gamme de masse A=80-160, principalement via la spectroscopie gamma et la spectroscopie d'électrons de conversion, en usant de toute une variété de techniques et d'installations expérimentales. Le but de ces études est de tester les prédictions de différents modèles théoriques (le modèle en couches, le modèle quasiparticule-rotor, quasiparticule-phonon etc.) dans les régions très éloignées de la stabilité. Cela nous permet de rechercher les changements dans les forces nucléaires pour ces régions. Les prédictions théoriques concernant ces forces y varient, quelques unes prédisant que l'interaction nucléon-nucléon pourrait changer dans les noyaux très riches en neutrons. Nous essayons par ailleurs de comprendre le rôle des différentes orbitales dans les rapides changements de forme de certaines régions. Ces expériences ont pris place dans différents instruments tels que le spéctromètre de masse de fragments de fission LOHENGRIN (présenté dans la rubrique Lohengrin) et le guide de neutrons PF1B à l'ILL de Grenoble, mais aussi ISOLDE (Isotope Separator On Line) au CERN, le GANIL, GSI-FAIR, et RIKEN. Ces expériences requièrent généralement la participation de quelques dizaines de physiciens dans le cadre de collaborations internationales. Actuellement la structure nucléaire est en pleine renaissance en raison de la construction de nouvelles installations produisant des faisceau radioactifs, telles que SPIRAL-2 (les groupes accélérateurs et source d'ions du LPSC jouant un rôle actif dans sa construction), HIE-ISOLDE, FAIR, RIBF et FRIB ce qui permet, ou permettra bientôt, d'explorer la structure des noyaux les plus exotiques. Nous sommes actuellement impliqués dans le développement de détecteurs de mesures de temps de vies courtes (de l'ordre de la picoseconde) pour ces installation, dans le cadre de la collaboration internationala FATIMA. En outre, nous utilisons, testons et développons différents modèles théoriques du noyau atomique.

Les activités du Groupe Signal et Image (GSI) de l’IMS, organisées selon les deux thèmes Spectral (méthodes Statistiques pour les CommunicaTions numériques, le RAdar et la Localisation) et Motive (MOdèles Texture Images VolumEs), relèvent d’une recherche fondamentale et appliquée s’inscrivant dans des partenariats académiques et industriels pérennes. Elles ont pour objectif la conception d’algorithmes avec a priori pour le traitement avancé du signal au sens large. Les travaux menés, où modélisation, inférence, optimisation et échantillonnage sont omniprésents, concernent des sujets impliquant des aspects multi-échelles, multi-dimensionnels, statiques ou dynamiques. Les thématiques, sur lesquelles le GSI s’est engagé au cours du dernier quadriennal, visent la résolution de problèmes inverses notamment dans le cas de données incomplètes, la caractérisation, le filtrage, la prise de décision optimale et la transmission de l’information. Elles se trouvent aujourd’hui au cœur de nombreuses préoccupations de la communauté nationale et internationale.

Am 24. Juli 2001 wurde eine Vereinbarung zwischen dem BMBF und dem Energieministerium der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika (Department of Energy) über die Zusammenarbeit auf dem Gebiet der dichten Plasmen unterzeichnet. Es ist die erste Vereinbarung auf der Grundlage eines Ressortabkommens zwischen den Ministerien vom 20. Februar 1998. Damit wird die Grundlage für eine Forschungskooperation zwischen der Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) und drei amerikanischen Nationallaboratorien, dem Lawrence Livermore Nationalen Laboratorium (LLNL), dem Lawrence Berkeley Nationalen Laboratorium (LBNL) und dem Princeton Laboratorium für Plasmaphysik (PPPL), geschaffen. Gegenstand der Kooperation ist unter anderem der Aufbau des weltweit einzigartigen Lasersystems PHELIX, das in Kombination mit dem an der GSI zur Verfügung stehenden intensiven Schwerionenstrahl völlig neuartige Experimente ermöglicht.

Now the panels are loaded for three weeks and transported to FAIR and GSI in Darmstadt on a total of 161 articulated truck trips. Neben den nationalen Vorschriften bieten Aquakultur-Zertifizierungsprogramme eine zusätzliche Sicherheit dafür, dass die Problematik der Meerläuse angegangen wird. In der Lachszuchtbranche herrscht die Einsicht, dass kein Unternehmen dieses Problem allein lösen kann und dass dieser Herausforderung nur mit einer globalen, gemeinsamen Antwort wirksam begegnet werden kann.
