In Canada, emergency management is a shared responsibility between Federal, Provincial, Territorial (FPT) and municipal governments, as well as industry stakeholders. The Livestock Market Interruption Strategy (LMIS) working group led by Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAFC), has developed plans and tools to be used during an outbreak in order to mitigate and deal with market interruptions caused by border closures. AAFC, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), FTP governments and industry stakeholders will conduct a workshop on September 19, 2017 to enhance awareness and validate the LMIS tools during a simulated foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in Ontario and Quebec. The group will also discuss different scenarios and approaches for the use of FMD vaccination during that same simulated outbreak.
