Morvin is an oil and gas field with high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) in the Norwegian Sea, approximately 20 kilometres north of the Kristin field and 15 kilometres west of the Åsgard field. The water depth in the area is about 350 metres. The field is developed with two four-slot subsea templates tied-back to the Åsgard B facility. Four production wells were drilled: one from the northern template (B), and the remaining from the southern template (A). Production started in 2010.

Drilling of new wells on Gullfaks has been challenging for many years due to overpressured areas in the Shetland/lista interval. Oil and water production from the Shetland/Lista reservoirs is now gradually contributing to reduced overpressure and improved drillability. New wells for water injection and production in deeper zones are being drilled; as many as ten wells are planned for 2017. Pilot studies are being conducted to establish water injection as a permanent drainage strategy in the Shetland/Lista reservoirs.

The licences granted an exclusive right to explore, drill and extract oil and gas in the areas to which they applied. The first exploration well was drilled in summer 1966, but proved to be dry. The first oil discovery on the Norwegian shelf was Balder in 1967. However, it was not considered to be economically viable at the time, and it took another 30 years before the field was finally developed.

  Felt: HEIMDAL - Norskpe...
Between 2011 and 2016, Heimdal had no production of its own, but the platform was used as a gas processing centre for other fields. A sidetrack drilled from an existing well targets the remaining gas reserves on the field. The well started production in early 2016. Work is ongoing to identify new gas resources that can be tied to Heimdal to prolong the lifetime of the gas centre. A rig was installed in 2014 for permanent plugging of old wells.

Decisions have been made during the last few years to continuously drill new oil production wells, and there are presently three drilling rigs on the field. The drilling of horizontal production wells from subsea templates on Troll Vest continues. There are presently about 120 active oil production wells on Troll Vest. A new gas compressor module on Troll B was approved in September 2016. It will increase the processing capacity starting in late 2018 and will therefore increase the total recoverable oil reserves. The gas reserves in Troll Vest will be developed in the ongoing Phase III project. Studies to optimise the further development of the field are part of the Phase III project.
