After the ORO course he was posted to HMCS HALIFAX as the Weapons Officer but after only 6 months was posted to HMCS ST. JOHNS to fulfill the same position. While onboard ST. JOHNS he surpassed 7 years as a qualified Ships Diver and had the opportunity to enter the Grand Banks and save a 25 foot humpback whale that had become ensnared in fishing lines. After two years as an operations officer, he proceeded to Sea Training Atlantic as the Combat Officer. In only one year at Sea Training, he planned eleven different sets of workups and spearheaded a major multinational exercise.
