The production team for La forza del destino will bring together the team that worked on William Tell and Moses in Egypt for WNO, with Raimund Bauer as Designer, Marie-Jeanne Lecca as Costume Desinger, and Fabrice Kebour as Lighting Designer. The design team has created a scenic device they call a "Verdi Machine" which will be common to all three operas but clad differently for each one so that the results are strikingly dissimilar. The effect of this will be to emphasise their individuality as well as throwing up surprising links. The "machine" consists of three interlocking frames which can create different shapes, into which different decorative elements can be fitted.

This support has provided an all-important springboard for developing international partnerships. The Festival is on course to secure upwards of £50,000 from international sources for 2012 and is committed to retaining this level of funding for 2013 and 2014. Financial backing from Denmark and the Confucius Institute, based at Trinity St David’s University will contribute to visits from Danish and Chinese artists next year whilst the support of the Chicago-based organisation Soli Deo Gloria will secure a series of choral commissions. Metcalf concludes, "At a time of severe cutbacks in public funding, this inward investment in the cultural life of Wales is even more valuable".

Rachel Trezise, known for her acerbic and witty writing, is able to tease out a moving story from the perspective of a Lidice survivor in A Child called Lidice where the central character Belia Bevan struggles to recover a past that is traumatically linked to the atrocity of Lidice. Her memory, awakened by seeing the Jennings film, begins the process of reclaiming the past and making sure the name Lidice lives in the future embodied in the name of her newborn child. By razing the community and obliterating their very being the Nazis unwittingly ensured that the name Lidice would become notorious, as we are reminded in the closing scene of the film that far from being lost "the name of the community has been immortalised".
