We understand and experience the process of the European integration as a process of affirmation of positive social values, civic freedoms and rule of law. The European perspective has opened to Croatian society an opportunity for creating new policies introducing higher standards in many fields of social and economic life. By involving citizens, local and regional authorities our organisation and network members in Southeast Europe have for a long time supported and advocated for European values and standards.

The call for a "Civic Hour in Defense of Democracy", public debate that will be held at 18 p.m. on March 21st, in the City and University Library of Osijek, organized by the Platform 112 - for Croatia governed by the Rule of Law and The Anti-Fascist League in cooperation with the Center for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights from Osijek. The public call will be an opportunity for an open discussion about the current crisis of democracy in Croatia and Europe, about the specific civic actions to defend constitutional values of peace, social justice, pluralism, respect for human rights and freedoms and the overall rule of law.

In order to promote the Europe for Citizens Program which is an excellent tool for promotion of citizens' participation in the connstruction of closer Europe, for strengthening of European identity and above all for strengthening of citizens' tolerance and mutal understanding based on the lessons learnt from the past LDA Osijek organized on 5th May an Europe for Citizens stand. LDA volunteers and staff addressed the citizens and informed them about the existence and main features of this unique program that is accessible to Croatian local municipalities, CSOs and other stakeholders that involve directly Croatian citizens.

One of these projects is the Civil Society in Action for Dialogue and Partnership, in which the lead partner is ALDA, while other partners are members of ALDA network from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia-LDA Mostar, Zavidovici, Osijek and Subotica and also Forum of Tuzla Citizens, Center for Local Development Breza, DON Prijedor and Center New Hopes Bihac. Five representatives of the partners in this project represented the informal network of organizations implementing the project, and these were Dzenana Dedic (LDA Mostar), Amra Hadzimehmedovic (New Hopes Bihac), Murisa Maric (DON Prijedor), Alen Smajic (CLR Breza) and Jasna Zvekić (LDA Zavidovici).

14. svibnja je u Gradskoj vijećnici Grada Vukovara održana radionica „Umrežavanje gradova i općina u lokalnoj perspektivi", u okviru EU projekta Podrška umrežavanju i europskoj suradnji gradova i općina – SNET.EU.Radionica je okupila različite dionike lokalne zajednice (predstavnike lokalnih vlasti, organizacija civilnoga društva, ostale zainteresirane građane) koji su se detaljnije upoznali s konceptom umrežavanja gradova i općina te zajednički promišljali o potencijalima, mogućnostima i potrebama vlastite lokalne zajednice u kontekstu umrežavanja na regionalnoj i europskoj razini.

On May 14 in the City Hall of Vukovar was held a workshop „Networking of Towns and Municipalities in a Local Perspective". The workshop is a part of the EU project Support for Networking and Twinning at European Level – SNET.EU. The workshop gathered different local community stakeholders- representatives of the local government, civil society organizations and other interested citizens- who were in details informed about the concept of networking of towns and municipalities. Also, together they were discussing about potentials, possibilities and needs of their own local community in the context of networking on the regional and European level.

The campaign for getting us "out of the sofa and vote for the European Parliament" in May starts now. We need to be active and request our respective parties and stakeholders to satisfy our expectations in brining good, capable and reliable candidates who will be able to stand the challenge. We need to request a role for Parliament as a fundamental democratic institution for Europe that will be able to face the crisis and relaunch our future. We need Europe, we need a better Europe, deeper and more democratic. A Europe for all its citizens.

As part of the initiative "5-12", representatives of some 20 associations and other citizens peacefully protested for supporting the initiative and sent message about the importance of civil society and it was held on May 25th on main square in Osijek. Part of these associations are also memebers of SOS-NET network of social service providers. This initiative wanted to emphasize the hasty decision of Government about reduce fundings for civil society organisations, without a structured dialogue with the associations, and with their slogan "Associations are working for others" they wanted to say that their associations exist for others and not for themselves.

In the second part of the workshop in an interactive discussion and in group presentations the participants discussed how to motivate citizens to be actively involved in their local community. One of the presented ideas was tointroduce a topic "Europe as an opportunity to live to 100 how to apply it in the context of Vukovar" as the main subject of the Open Doors Days, the project activity to take place next in Vukovar.The participants expressed their satisfaction with the chosen subject and their hopes that it will be interesting and attractive enough to motivate the people of Vukovar to participate in the Open Days which will follow. In the wider context of this project this is, obviously, a message that people from Vukovar would like to network with towns and municipalities which consider active ageing and cross generational solidarity as their important priorities.

Bila je to prilika za otvoreni razgovor o aktualnoj krizi demokracije u Hrvatskoj i Europi te o potrebi pokretanja građanskih akcija za obranu ustavnih vrijednosti, mirotvorstva, socijalne pravde, pluralizma, poštivanja ljudskih prava i slobode te ukupne vladavine prava.

The debate was attended by Vesna Teršelić, head of Documenta Association, journalist Drago Hedl, actress Ursa Raukar and Miljenko Turniški from Local Democracy Agency as a representative of the local civil sector. The public debate was moderated by Marina Škrabalo from GONG. It was an opportunity for open discussion about the current crisis of democracy in Croatia and Europe, and about the need to launch civil action to defend the constitutional values of peace, social justice, pluralism, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and the overall rule of law. The public debate in Osijek was a second debate in a series of citizens hours in defense of democracy that are organising in Croatia as a boost for citizens of diverse worldviews and lifestyles, but with mutual care for constitutional values, for an open discussion about the current crisis of democracy and concrete civic actions that can mitigate or even eliminate this problem.

Around sixty representatives of 12 municipalities from the border area included in the action were present in the concluding event of the eighteen month of extensive capacity building and networking activities aimed to help create a cross-border co-operation platform for follow-up project development. During the project implementation three trainings on EU public policies were held, whereas the most visited were the twelve Cross-border cafees hosted by each of the municipalities. The LDAs Osijek and Subotica marked their twentieth anniversary while jointly implementing the project and have established the LDA Resource and Training centres for promoting cross-border co-operation initiatives that have been hosting a wide range of both local and cross-border project activities.

For the recognition „Peacebuilding School 2015" there were 18 nominations by 12 elementary and 6 high schools from 13 counties in Croatia. This recognition was awarded this year for the first time and it is a great incentive for students and teachers from the Daruvar Economic and Tourism School to strengthen their peacebuilding capacity with additional knowledge and skills about conflict management, peer mediation and non-violent action. Its aim is also to connect and exchange with other schools, institutions and civil society organizations. This educational study visit was organized by the Center for Peace, Non-Violence and Human Rights in collaboration with Msvijet - Mediation Centre Osijek. But there were more organisations and institutions that participated in the implementation of this project: Local Democracy Agency, associations „Pobjeda" and „Auksilium", Nansen Dialogue Center, Proni Center, Fade In, Economics School Osijek, Medicine School Osijek, Trade School Osijek and High School for Natural Sciences and Mathematics.This study visit was financially supported by the National Foundation for Civil Society Development.

During four days of this year's manifestation they managed to involve some 200 volunteers and to attract 15000 visitors. Their methodology and success in definitely something that inhabitants of Erdut Municipality gladly look for. Through years this event enabled to both citizens and local authorities representatives to exchange ideas, talk about common chellanges and discover new fields of their furture cooperation.
