Béguinage je posebno organizirano naselje u kojem su kuće zidane u krug oko malog vrta u sredini i u krug se može ući samo kroz jedna vrata. Specijalno su građena u Njemačkoj, Francuskoj i Belgiji blizu gradova, a u svrhu okupljanja žena koje su tu živjele i služile službu Božju.

It was Flemish Beguinage that was founded in 1245. Beguinage is a specially organized housing plan where houses are forming a full circle with the garden in the middle. It was specially designed and usually located outside of towns where women lived like regular nuns, but the were actually not, as they had different religious believes. Those places were intentionally moved outside of towns to secure peace and silence inside the Beguinage, and people are instructed to walk in silence around the gardens.

Montrer texteMontrer source en cacheMontrer URL avec texte source	Spomenuti Mini Europe je odma do ulaska u Atomioum pa smo i njega obišli, ali više od pola eksponata bilo je pod ledom i snijegom. Samo su se one više građevine mogle vidjeti. Kao na primjer ova crkva koja glasi za crkvu s najljepšim krovom u Europi, a nalazi se u našem glavnom gradu.

Only the higher ones were visible. Well, this is one of the nicest churches in Europe due to it’s original roof, and it’s from Croatian capitol Zagreb.

Znam da je uvijek pisalo na pakiranjima “prženi u ljusci”, ali pošto drugačijih ni nema ko da ideš gledat šta piše. Onda kupiš isti takav kikiriki, oljuštiš ga, a on onako ima okus ko sirovi grašak. Pojedeš tako pola te vrećice i sve ti nekako čudan, mekan, pa ga daš ženi da proba, a ona ispali ko iz topa – “pa ovo je sirovo i ima okus ko sirovi grašak”.

Another thing missing here is “smoki” (corn puffs). We have more or less one kind of corn puffs, and they are made with peanut flavor. The only corn puffs that can be found here are with cheese or chicken flavor. Mentioning peanuts… I’ve never ever bought raw peanuts anywhere but here. It is true that on all our bags it says “fried”, but as there are no “raw” to be purchased I did not pay attention. So I wanted a bit of peanuts, I’ve bought a small bag and I started to eat them… It was sort of good, but more or less they tasted weird. So after couple of days and half bag eaten, I asked my wife to try it and tell me what is wrong with them. She immediately said “those are raw, and they taste exactly like raw green peas”. A few minutes and google searches later, we had the best peanuts ever. Roasted by my wife!

Nemam pojma kako bi preveo ovo ime na naški).

Walking through the “Mile” sets you back in the Medieval times, as there are some well preserved old houses, churches and a couple of galleries.

Tako su, kako bi zaštitili toranj oko njega izgradili 20 katova visoki stakleni stožac koji je među najvećim građevinama te vrste na svijetu.

In order to protect the tower a huge 20 story tall glass cone was built above it, and as such it is one of the largest structures of that kind in the world.

Montrer texteMontrer source en cacheMontrer URL avec texte source	Imali smo taman vremena za posjet još jednoj istaknutoj građevini koja je na sasvim drugom kraju grada, ali usput ako se ide u Atomium. Radi se o slavnoj bazilici Koekelberg. Zaputili smo se tamo i htjeli smo tu negdje nešto pojesti, ako se nađe, međutim kako smo došli do prilaza Bazilici shvatili smo da je uzdignuta na malom brijegu i da oko nje nema ništa osim ogromnih parkova.

Famous Basilica Koekelberg. We expected to eat somewhere in that area, but by the time we arrived in that part of the city, we figured out that the whole place is built on a small hill and surrounded by huge parks.

Tura je obuhvaćala sve, ne samo toranj, pa smo naučili baš mnogo o samoj građevini. Kad je izgrađena, kad popravljena, kad obnovljena, kad je počeo nadaleko poznati zbor pjevati u ovoj crkvi, kada su stare orgulje zamijenjene sa ultra modernim novim koje se protežu preko tri kata, kad je ukradena relikvija iz crkve i mnoge druge zanimljive i važne informacije.

As guided tour included a whole tour around the church we learned a lot about it; when it was built, then re-built, repaired, then repaired again, when the well known quire started to perform here, when the new organs were brought in, when the old ones are replaced and cleaned, how and when the relic was stolen from the cathedral and many more useful information. We learned as well that majority of tiles are not originals but a well refurbished copy of medieval tiles done to resemble originals back in 1871. There is one small part with originals from 13th century.
