Madman, prankster, wild-man or philosopher? Just who was Mario di Marcella, the son of Marcella, the mute yet extravagant hermit with a mysterious past? Those are the questions that puzzle the old hunters who knew him, whether distantly or very distantly. Gathered over drinks or sitting alone, each one enthusiastically tells a story about this ghost who still haunts them, the Italian forest, the nearby ruins. They contradict themselves at times, but no matter: the story grows, and the portrait of a larger-than-life man emerges. Slowly but surely the hunters also reveal themselves, speaking of a life inextricably tied to the land where they live. With humility, skill and wry humour, Matteo Zoppis and Alessio Rigo de Righi capture, in images, all the beauty of a fleeting oral tradition.
