Per diritto on demand si intende il diritto di rendere pubblica un’opera su un sistema di comunicazione (ad esempio su Internet). Dal 1° luglio 2008 questo diritto non spetta più soltanto agli autori, ma viene esteso anche ai cosiddetti diritti di protezione affini e pertanto agli interpreti, ai produttori e agli organismi di diffusione. Il diritto on demand permette di difendersi dalla pirateria su Internet e di impedire l’offerta illecita di prestazioni immateriali. La violazione intenzionale del diritto on demand può essere punita con una pena detentiva fino a cinque anni e una pena pecuniaria fino a 1'080'000 franchi.
