This doesn’t even begin to examine the achievement of the next layer of stars, including ballplayers Russell Martin and Jeff Francis, moguls skier Jennifer Heil, Paralympics star Chantal Petitclerc, Grant and all the other terrific athletes of whom this country should be so proud. Boiling the opening 20 candidates down to 10, then to five, was more difficult than you’d think. You could go on for paragraphs about dozens of worthwhile possibilities, but it eventually comes down to one name and that name turns out to be Crosby. It’s a good choice.
