LA FISICA DELL’ACQUA ( The Physics of Water) by Felice Farina, Italy 2009 – 76’ Cast: Claudio Amendola, Paola Cortellesi, Stefano Dionisi, Lorenzo Vavassori, Anita Zagaria Seven-year-old Alessandro lost his father when he was just a toddler, and is being raised by his mother, Giulia, a swimming teacher, in a house surrounded by trees. One morning Alessandro wakes at the sound of a car roaring off. He chases after it yelling desperately but arrives only in time to see an ambulance take off from the spot where the car in which his mother and uncle were riding has had a terrible accident. He is in shock, and a detective tries soothing him. Alessandro cries and confesses he’d been tampering with the brakes of the car. The detective is considerate and gentle, calms the boy down and persuades him to tell his story. A confused tale ensues of ‘visions’ that torment the boy ever since his uncle Claudio has reappeared in his life. Claudio courts Giulia who has never remarried, and tries to convince her to put the old house up for sale. This pushes the child into a whirlwind of frustration and unhappiness, and little by little he delves back into his past, until the reason that caused his hatred for his uncle tragically surfaces.
