Ein gobaith yw y bydd y rôl hon yn gallu ysbrydoli pobl ifanc eraill i ddatblygu, gan fod ein mentor presennol wedi derbyn ein gwasanaeth yn y gorffennol, yn deall y problemau y mae defnyddwyr gwasanaethau’n eu hwynebu ac yn gallu meithrin perthynas dda â nhw.
We hope this role can inspire other young people to develop themselves as our current mentor has been a recipient of our service, understands the problems that the service users face and can relate to them well.

Wedi dyfalbarhad gan y staff bu i ddechrau gweithio yn well gyda’i Gweithiwr Allweddol ac aelodau eraill o’r tîm. Dechreuodd fynychu gweithgareddau amrywiol megis perthnasau iach a chamddefnyddio sylweddau.
Our perseverance paid off and L started to engage well with her Key Worker and other members of the team. She started to attend various workshops such as healthy relationships and substance abuse. She attended our focus groups and contributed well and came up with a lot of ideas we could incorporate into our service user participation strategy. She also won our poem competition and was extremely proud of herself.

Rydw I’n 18 mlwydd oed, hyd at chew mis yn ol roeddwn yn teimlo doedd dim byd yn mynd yn iawn yn fy mywyd. Doedd pethau ddim yn dda adref, ac o ganlyniad yn cael fy mygwth o’m taflu allan, I ddadlau mawr am bethau a oedd yn teimlo fel diwedd y byd ar yr amser.
GISDA boosted my confidence by making everything that seemed impossible, possible. I had someone to turn to, at a time when I felt that there was no one, someone was listening and understanding and I felt happier in myself. My grades in college also improved and finally something that I never thought would happen, did. I was accepted on a degree course. My key worker was as exited as I was and we started looking at financial help and support that was on offer to me.

Mae hi yn teimlo fod cael mentor cyfoed yn rhan o’r genfoagaeth yn llawer o gymoorth, “Mae wedi bod yn gret siarad gyda rhwyun yr un od sydd a plenty I drafod amrywiol bethau ac mae wedi gwenud I mi sylwi fy mod yn fam dda. Mae mynd allan I siopa wedi bod yn llawer o gymorth”.
In addition to this, A has become more ambitious and is focusing on bettering her own and her son’s life. “I’ve definitely spent more time with my child doing different things because of the project”. She felt that having a peer mentor as a support was a huge help “It’s been great to talk with someone of the same age who has a child, to discuss different things and to be made to realise that I am a good mother. Going out shopping has also been a help!”

Crëwyd cytundeb ymddygiad yn manylu beth oedd yn ymddygiad derbyniol a beth oedd yn ddisgwyliedig ohoni ond hefyd yn manylu beth oedd cyfrifoldebau’r staff a sut oedd modd iddynt ei chynorthwyo a’i chefnogi i newid ei hymddygiad. Bu i hyn weithio yn dda ac roedd L yn teimlo ei bod yn cael ei chefnogi a ddim yn cael ei chosbi am ymddygiad annerbyniol.
However with intensive support and a therapeutic approach we started to see small changes and we built upon these. We focused on the positives and listened to what she actually wanted. Staff were consistent in their approach, they motivated ‘L’ and believed in her. We used a lot of praise and encouragement. We also used behaviour agreement detailing what was acceptable behaviour and what was expected of her but also detailing our responsibilities and how we could help and support her to change her behaviour. This worked well and L felt she was being supported and not punished for her unacceptable behaviour.
