Center odličnosti PoliMaT je v sodelovanju s Slovenskim kemijskim društvom - Sekcijo za polimere, Polimernim kompetenčnim centrom iz Leobna (PCCL), Avstrija, in Kemijskim inštitutom soorganizator tretje avstrijsko-slovenske polimerne konference, ASPM 2013.
PoliMaT Center of Excellence, Ljubljana, in cooperation with the Slovenian Chemical Society - Section for Polymers, Polymer Competence Center in Leoben (PCCL), Austria, and National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, is the co-organizer of the third Austrian-Slovenian Polymer Conference, ASPM 2013. The conference is a biannual event and will be held from 3 to 5 April 2013 at the Congress Centre Hotel Golf in Bled. It will cover all key areas in the field of polymer science. Conferences have been previously held in Graz (2008) and Leoben (2010) and attracted up to 200 participants.

Na levi – Prvi “space-fill” model kateregakoli keratinskega dimera (1A regija K5/K14, iz Liovic et al, JID 116:964, 2001); Na desni – Analiza odgovora K14 mutant (KEB-4 in KEB-7 celic) na hipo-osmotski stres z uporabo metodologije mikromrež, kaže na pomembno zvišanje izražanja niza genov vpletenih v zaviranje celične rasti, medtem ko so ti ostali nespremenjeni pri zdravih, kontrolnih (NEB-1) celicah (Liovic et al, Exp Cell Res 314:2066, 2008). Ta pojav je zelo podoben stresnem odgovoru celic raka dojke na tretman z Onconstatin M, ki je član družine IL-6 citokinov (Underhill-Day et al, Cancer Res. 66:10891, 2006).

Prvi je BIO11/2006, v katerem nadaljujemo v prejšnjem letu začeto ovrednotenje podobnosti/identičnosti kemijskih struktur nekaterih učinkovin, ki jih raziskuje farmacevtska družba Lek Pharmaceuticals, d.d., Ljubljana.
· Two industrial projects were going on in 2006. The first one, BIO11/2006, is a continuation of the project started in the previous year, in which we were evaluating the similarity/identity of molecular structures of drugs investigated by Lek Pharmaceuticals, d.d., Ljubljana, Slovenia. The second project with the company IMS-ADITOIL d.o.o., Trzin, Slovenia; contract no. 120/06-L03, was for long-term collaboration in the field of research and development of low temperature bitumen and asphalt mixes. In the frame of this contract, researchers for the National Institute of Chemistry work on basic and applicative research, develop analytical methods, prepare expert studies; in collaboration with IMS-ADITOIL d.o.o. we apply for projects and prepare presentations about low temperature bitumen and asphalt mixes for the public in the field of road construction.

S strukturno karakterizacijo materiala z rentgensko absorpcijsko spektroskopijo in katalitskimi testi smo dokazali, da so visoko aktivni le nanodelci, ki vsebujejo v silikatno ogrodje vgrajen mangan, ne pa nanodelci, v katerih je mangan prisoten v obliki oksidov (Mn3O4 ali Mn2O3). Material predstavlja novo družino katalizatorjev za AOP procese, ki razgrajujejo organska onesnažila v vodi.
Wet hydrogen peroxide catalytic oxidation (WHPCO) is one of the most promising industrially applicable advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for the decomposition of organic pollutants in water. Researchers from Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry and Technology (L09) in collaboration with researches from Laboratory for Environmental Sciences and Engeenering (L05) and a researcher from University of Nova Gorica designed a novel and environmentally friendly, cost-effective as well as highly efficient catalyst for catalytic wastewater purification. The discovery was published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials. Researchers demonstrated for the first time that manganese functionalized silicate nanoparticles act as a superior catalyst in WHPCO, since they can completely decompose and convert to carbon dioxide 80 % of a test organic compound in 30 minutes at neutral pH and room temperature. By performing structural characterization of the material using X-ray absorption spectroscopic techniques and catalytic tests, it was also proven that the superior activity of the catalyst can be attributed uniquely to the manganese incorporated into silicate framework of nanoparticles, and not to manganese in the form of manganese oxides (Mn3O4, Mn2O3). The presented material thus introduces a new family of catalysts, which possess superior efficiency for the decomposition of organic pollutants dissolved in water.

Sposobnost za zagotavljanje točnih meritev je ena od osnovnih temeljev napredne industrijske družbe. Naraščajoča globalizacija gospodarstva in trgovine zahteva zaupanje v rezultate merjenj vseh vrst, vključno z merjenjem v kemiji.
The ability to make accurate measurements is one of the essential foundations of advanced industrial society. The continuing globalization of trade and economy requires confidence in measurement results of any kind, including chemical measurements. Metrology is defined as “the science of measurements”. It is concerned with the development of a structured support system based on traceable standards. The principles of chemical and physical metrology are unique but the practical application to real chemical measurement problems in a systematic way is different due to great variety and complexity of chemical measurement tasks. To ensure reliable and comparable chemical measurements in the 21st century, the following tasks must be established: use of validated test methods and equipment, procedures for determining measurement uncertainty, procedures and tools for establishing traceability, pure substance reference materials and calibration standards, matrix reference materials, independent evidence of performance (proficiency testing) and quality assurance and quality control. Generation of analytical data in environmental sector, which are “fit for purpose” is designated as “high” priority in the EU. With the large increase in the use of chemicals in industry the potential contamination of air, water ad the general environment has dramatically increased. The major tasks of the proposed project are connected to water analysis: validation of test methods, development of measurement uncertainty evaluation strategies and procedures for establishing measurement traceability of measurement results, development and validation of pre-treatment techniques as a means of managing matrix effects in analytical methods, development of methodology for preparation of proficiency testing material, development of reference measurements for providing reference values in proficiency testing schemes, evaluation of benefits and disadvantages of proficiency testing scheme, operated under reference value, development of methodology for preparation of in-house reference materials, relation of procedures to quality systems according to standards. Development of methodologies will be underpinned by worked examples, which will cover groups of chemical measurements in water and wastewater matrices.
