Anhand der vorliegenden Materialien lässt sich allerdings ein Fall nachvollziehen: Dabei handelt es sich um eine von den Studenten Adrian Egger, Josef Grogger, Karl Hauser, Othmar Jaindl, Hermann Leitner, Peter Marchl, Kurt Posner, Ferdinand Ruesch, Franz Staud, Richard Steinhofer und Egon Weth 1938 unterzeichnete Intervention zur Wiedereinsetzung des aus politischen Gründen vertriebenen Bildhauerei-Professors Albert Bechtold, die jedoch erfolglos blieb.[25]

Art is never outside, it is never uninvolved in social disparity, but is always involved in it – along with its institutions. The autonomy of art is nothing other than a frequently debunked myth. However, the way that the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna relates to its own history certainly raises the question of whether that recognition has reached the institution or not. After the appropriate contention of the history-politics of the institution, one is inclined to no longer wonder about anything anymore – not about the not-wanting-to-recognize swastikas nor about the attempt to pathologize the ability to recognize them. However, breaking the perpetuation and normalization of the practices of trivialization, repression and collective oblivion, which characteristically take place in this country, and thereby always examining, denominating and contesting the coalescence of art and power anew is incumbent on each of those of us who participate in the arts as a cultural ideological state apparatus.[31]

No se sabe si han desaparecido los documentos que dan fe de actos de resistencia antifascista. No obstante, con la ayuda de los materiales disponibles cabe reconstruir un caso: se trata de una intervención firmada en 1938 por los estudiantes Adrian Egger, Josef Grogger, Karl Hauser, Othmar Jaindl, Hermann Leitner, Peter Marchl, Kurt Posner, Ferdinand Ruesch, Franz Staud, Richard Steinhofer y Egon Weth en favor de la readmisión del profesor de escultura Albert Bechtold, expulsado por motivos políticos, que no obtuvo ningún resultado[25]. La readmisión de Bechtold en la Academia tras la liberación del nazismo, que tuvo que solicitar por propia iniciativa, fue rechazada por el claustro de profesores por motivos espurios. «Permítasenos observar a este respecto que a día de hoy la Academia no ha visto necesario expresar ningún gesto de reconocimiento hacia Bechtold», constata Irene Nierhaus 51 años después de la expulsión de Bechtold[26]. Ante lo cual es preciso observar a su vez que, 22 años después de la indicación de Nierhaus, a día de hoy esa situación sigue siendo la misma.
