Radnja ovog animiranog filma u tehnici kolaža nadahnuta je starom kineskom pričom: stari Ginko i njegov sin Kinko živjeli su na selu. Jednoga dana njihov je konj pobjegao, no idućeg se dana vratio s drugim, još ljepšim konjem.

The story of this cut-out animation movie is based on an old Chinese tale: an old man, Ginko, and his son Kinko lived in a countryside village. One day, his horse ran away but the next day it actually came back with another horse, even more beautiful. Kinko went on a ride on the new horse, but fell down and broke his leg. He could not walk for several months. At that time, a war started and all the young men of the village were drafted in and many of them lost their lives on the front. Only Ginko’s son escaped the horror of war because of his broken leg that forced him to stay back home. Whatever happens, good luck and bad luck often run together. That is old man Ginko’s attitude.

After the end of the Civil War, Manuel Cortés, a former mayor of the town of Mijas in the province of Malaga, had no chance to escape from Spain. After a long and dangerous journey, he managed to get home at night without being discovered. His wife, Juliana, warned him of the numerous firing squads that were taking place in the village. So, they decided to open a small hole in the wall where Manuel could hide. Manuel Cortés could never have imagined that this small space behind the wall would become his personal prison for 30 years. This is the story of the so-called post-war moles who had to sacrifice an entire lifetime to escape repression.

The next day, 6 June, from 10am till noon at the Educarena playhouse of the Kaptol Centre, another workshop is scheduled, providing more concrete possibility of exploring the bases of animation, intended for children age 5-12. The participants will have the opportunity to make their first stop-motion animations in cut-out, sand and watercolour. The trainers are Jadranko Lopatić, Vjekoslav Živković and Jasminka Bijelić.

It starts out in an ordinary situation with the father and daughter sitting at the kitchen table. The daughter is waiting for her food to get warm and is annoyed by her father's questions and suggestions. The situation then develops and transforms into a surrealistic world full of love and pain.

In addition to the Golden Zagreb award, Animafest’s fund ensured the author financial support amounting to €3000 for further project development and presentation at Cartoon Movie co-production forum in Lyon in March next year. The author whose film was selected among six other projects from Central and Eastern Europe will tell a true biographic story through drawing about the meeting of two countries, Croatia and Switzerland, as well as through documentary and animated sequences.

Illustrations and comics: In the 1995-1997 period he took part in the activities of the artists group Kolektiv Variete Radikale, publishing a series of illustrations and comics in their editions. His works from that period were also published in Novi List, Modra Lasta, Kult, Arkzin, Homo Volans. In the years to come, he published comics and illustrations in children’s magazines Šalji dalje and Modra Lasta, often collaborating with Krešimir Zimonić. Together, they created a comic book serial Vatrene ulice. In the 1999-2004 period he drew the Svebor i Plamena comic for Modra Lasta, based on Darko Macan’s script, and worked as illustrator on a number of books published by Egmont, Herceg Press, Abc naklada, Alfa and Znanje. His works regularly appear in Jutarnji list and OK! magazine, and he often collaborates with Q magazine. In 2007 and 2009 he was one of the associates of the Animafest management, designing posters for the world festival of animated film in Zagreb. He participated in numerous illustration and comic exhibitions in Croatia and internationally.
