After the expulsion of the Palestinians and the setting up of the state of Israel in 1948, the young Palestinian Elias Jubran stayed on in the place where he was born. However, because of the political situation, he and his family lived in total isolation. Music helped him to overcome this isolation and provided him with an escape. The film shows his family today, almost sixty years later. All four of his children have grown up in this environment permeated by politics and music, and have retained their links to music in very different ways. Completely different windows on the world open up through the children: the areas of Israel inhabited by Palestinians, Jerusalem and Paris. With this documentary, Anne-Marie Haller shows the intense interplay of music and politics in one of the worlds most politically explosive regions. A film about music which draws its vitality largely from its closeness to the protagonists and their different ways of life.

Nach der Vertreibung der Palästinenser und der Errichtung des Staates Israel 1948, bleibt der junge Palästinenser Elias Jubran in seinem Geburtsort. Doch aufgrund der politischen Situation lebt er mit seiner Familie sehr isoliert. Die Musik hilft ihm dabei, diese Isolation zu überwinden und wird zu einem Ausweg. Der Film zeigt seine Familie heute, beinahe 60 Jahre später. Seine Kinder, alle vier in dieser politisch und musikalisch geprägten Umgebung aufgewachsen, bleiben auf die unterschiedlichste Art und Weise mit der Musik verbunden. Über die Kinder öffnen sich ganz verschiedene Fenster zur Welt: zu den von Palästinensern besiedelten Gebieten in Israel, nach Jerusalem und nach Paris. Mit diesem Dokumentarfilm zeigt Anne-Marie Haller ein Kräftefeld von Musik und Politik in einer der politisch brisantesten Regionen der Erde. Ein Musikfilm, der vor allem von der Nähe zu den Personen lebt und durch ihre unterschiedlichen Lebensentwürfe genährt wird.
