In the Triple E scenario, it is projected that by the end of the period almost 30 Mt per year of CO2 is captured. In the first years of the forecast, all captured GHG emissions are used in enhanced oil recovery. GHG emissions use for EOR peaks in 2017 and then tapers off for the remainder of the scenario. Total GHG emissions used in EOR over the period is 230 Mt. In the latter part of the scenario, captured GHG emissions supply is larger than enhanced oil recovery demand and GHG emissions are assumed to be stored with out the economic benefit of EOR. The CO2 price in the latter half of the projection supports this behaviour as industries will prefer to avoid the CO2 price.

Attendees expressed their interest in the inclusion of a scenario wherein absolute GHG emissions decline. Such a scenario would also illustrate the resultant impacts on the economy. The Triple-E scenario was not deemed to be aggressive or "green" enough and some participants viewed the emissions intensity improvements in the scenario to be nearer the "business as usual" scenario. Additionally, it was suggested that there could be sensitivities incorporated surrounding declining GHG emissions, such as changes to the GDP, energy prices, energy efficiency improvements, and a higher CO2 tax. Participants would also like to see the environmental programs that were modeled for the analysis in greater detail.

Lastly, I would like to address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our stakeholders were very interested in understanding what would be the effect of these scenarios on GHG emissions. It is important to note that we can only address emissions as they relate to energy consumption. Our study did not consider the effect of agriculture or forestry carbon sinks nor did we consider any emissions trading implications. Therefore, we offer a partial analysis of Canada's GHG emissions future. To a large extent, GHG emissions are an outcome of energy demand trends, and therefore GHG emissions increase with growing demand in the Reference Case and almost all scenarios.
