L'organo supremo dell'UIT è la Conferenza dei plenipotenziari (PP), che si riunisce ogni quattro anni, l'ultima si è tenuta ad Guadalajara (Mexico) nel 2010. La prossima Conferenza si terrà nel 2014, ma fino a tale appuntamento, il Consiglio dell'UIT, limitato a 48 Paesi di cui la Svizzera, si riunirà ogni anno per garantire il buon funzionamento dell'Unione.

The supreme body of the ITU is the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP), which meets every four years. The last PP took place in 2010 in Guadalajara (Mexico). The next one will take place in 2014, but between now and then the ITU Council, limited to 48 countries, including Switzerland, will meet annually to ensure the Union functions properly. The ITU is headed up by five senior international civil servants, elected by the PP and each coming from one of the five regions of the world where the ITU has members, in order to respect the principle of geographical balance.

L'organe suprême de l'UIT est la Conférence des plénipotentiaires (PP), qui se réunit tous les quatre ans. La dernière PP a eu lieu en 2010, à Guadalajara (Mexique). La suivante se tiendra en 2014, mais d'ici là, le Conseil de l'UIT, limité à 48 pays, dont la Suisse, se réunira annuellement afin de garantir le bon fonctionnement de l'Union. L'UIT est dirigée par cinq hauts fonctionnaires internationaux, élus par la PP et issus chacun de l'une des cinq régions du monde que compte l'UIT, par respect du principe d'équilibre géographique.

Oberstes Organ der ITU ist die Konferenz der Regierungsbevollmächtigten (PP), die sich alle vier Jahre versammelt. Die letzte PP fand 2010 in Guadalajara (Mexico) statt; die nächste wird 2014 durchgeführt. Bis dahin wird aber der ITU-Rat, der auf 48 Länder (darunter die Schweiz) beschränkt ist, jährlich zusammentreten und den Betrieb der ITU gewährleisten. Die ITU wird von fünf ranghohen internationalen Beamten geleitet, die von der PP gewählt werden und aus den fünf Weltregionen der ITU stammen, womit dem Grundsatz des geografischen Gleichgewichts Rechnung getragen wird.
