Each social environment is different, each adventure strange. Each character is treated differently. Karim’s route, for example, is more organic and he moves around in real time. The scenes with Tristan are more composed and punctuate the film like so many pictures. But Kohler knows how to raise doubts around his theme, as in this extremely jumbled sequence where Tristan leaves his girl friend at the station to rejoin his father, followed by a scene of “direct cinema” where Karim confronts his distraught mother.

Chaque environnement social est différent, chaque aventure singulière. Karim va partir, sur les conseils de son éducateur, en quête de son père, qu’il ne retrouvera pas. Par contre, Tristan le rencontrera et partira vers une vie nouvelle. Chaque personnage est traité différemment. Le parcours de Karim est plus organique: on le voit évoluer en temps réel. Les scènes avec Tristan sont plus composées et ponctuent le film comme autant de tableaux. Mais Kohler sait remettre en question son dispositif. Comme dans cette séquence très découpée oùTristan quitte son amie à la gare pour rejoindre son père, suivie par une scène de pur «cinéma direct», où Karim affronte une mère dépassée.

How to fight for freedom? For more than sixty years Tibetans are fighting Chinese oppression. But the nonviolent resistance appears to be in vain. Now, as a new form of protest Tibetans set themselves on fire. Loten Namling, an exile Tibetan and musician is heavily disturbed by such self destroying protest. He sets off for a quest, from Europe to India, meets top politicians, experts and young radicals. He radicalizes more and more and ends up at the Dalai Lama’s headquarters to ask for advice.

Aujourd’hui les Tibétains ont trouvé une nouvelle forme de protestation: ils s’immolent par le feu. Loten Namling, Tibétain en exil et musicien, est fortement perturbé par cette forme de protestation autodestructrice. Il se lance dans une quête qui le mène d’Europe en Inde et au cours de laquelle il rencontre d’éminents politiciens, des experts et de jeunes radicaux. Il se durcit de plus en plus et finit au quartier général du Dalaï-lama pour lui demander son avis.

Between moments of intimacy and scenes from everyday life, Fernand Melgar follows over the period of a year the life of a couple fighting the way other people regard them. Pascal does not hide his need to dress up like a woman; he is at one and the same time an affectionate family man and a woman, dreaming of sequins and the music hall. In a continual battle, this ménage à trois struggles to assert its identity, coming up against attacks from the family and jeers from the inhabitants of the village.

They call him "Svet-ake" ("Mr. Light"). The electrician is responsible for bringing more than just light to the people around him. Like moths, everybody is drawn to his kindness: those with short circuits in their electricity, and those with short circuits in their marriage, those who have taken all the power in the city, and those who have given up the will to live. He helps everyone and is everywhere. He doesn't even shy from breaking the law, rewinding an old and lonely pensioner's electricity meter so that he doesn't owe the State, but rather the State owes him. The economic devastation of the country has had an enormous impact on the working people and yet despite the upheaval they have not lost the ability to love, to suffer, to share their lives with friends, and enjoy what they have... in particular our resilient electrician who possesses a wonderful and open heart. He not only brings electric light (which is often out) to the lives of the inhabitants of this village, but he also spreads the light of love, loyalty, life, and most of all, lots of laughter.
