A seconda della composizione il viraggio risulta più chiaro o più scuro. Le plastiche scure decolorandosi diventano bianche nel punto da marcare, la plastiche chiare invece diventano grigie o nere (vedere carbonizzazione).

The carbon in the sensor’s plastic oxidizes to CO2, which emerges from the plastic and forms a foam layer. Depending on the composition, the color change is either bright or dark. Dark plastics turn white at the points to be marked, while bright plastics turn either gray or black (see carbonization).

Der Kohlenstoff im Kunststoff des Sensors oxidiert zu CO2, welches aus dem Kunststoff austritt und eine Schaumschicht bildet. Je nach Zusammensetzung fällt der Farbumschlag heller oder dunkler aus. Dunkle Kunststoffe verfärben sich an den zu markierenden Stellen weiß, helle Kunststoffe grau oder schwarz (siehe Karbonisierung).
