Papa je rekao «Budući da je on biskup toga kraja, morate ga poštivati». Onda je nastavio u srdačnom tonu «Ali on će odgovarati pred Bogom ukoliko nije postupio ispravno». Nakon toga Papa je ostao u mislima nekoliko trenutaka i tada rekao: «Današnji svijet je izgubio osjećaj za nadnaravno; drugim riječima, osjećaj Boga. Ali mnogi ljudi ponovno otkrivaju taj osjećaj u Međugorju kroz molitvu, post i sakramente».

After the conversation with the Pope, I visited Medjugorje incognito three or four times. But, the former bishop of Mostar-Duvno, Pavao Zanic, wrote a letter to me asking me not to visit Medjugorje any more; if I refuse, he will write to Pope himself, he said. It seems that somebody informed him about my visit. However, there was no reason for me to be afraid of the Holy Father.

To me se jako dojmilo. Toliki hodočasnici, tolika gorljivost, toliko srdačnosti među njima. Vidi se da je svaka skupina jedna mala zajednica koja se zajedno kreće, jedno srce, jedna duša, živo Evanđelje u tim trenutcima zajedničke molitve i svega što se zajedno poduzima.

The first impression is totally beautiful, positive, I see that the things that I had heard are true, indeed I found a lot more than what I supposed. I mean it in two senses. Firstly, the physical structures - I have found a great amount of prayer places, apart the places of the apparition, places where it is easy to pray, where people go, where they gather. I had no idea about this! I knew that there are two bell towers, this church, it us a beautiful church! Very solid! And then I mean it also in an other sense, in the sense of the amount of persons who arrive here, I am very impressed. Many pilgrims, much fervour and also much cordiality among them. Every group is a small community that moves, one heart, one spirit, the Gospel lived in these moments of prayer, of movement made together. I am very impressed, because the messages are more or less read, there is nothing new in the messages, but the amount of persons that come to see, to feel, to experiment, this is very impressing!

Gospa nam u poruci kaže i da smo po tebi dobili novog zagovornika u Nebu, i zato te molimo da s neba budeš uz nas s jednakom energijom i s jednakim angažmanom kao što si bio na zemlji, ovdje u Međugorju, uvijek svakom na raspolaganju. Još jednom ti srdačno zahvaljujemo za tvoje prijateljstvo, tvoju ljubav i tvoj uzoran život.

Aujourd’hui, près de ton lit de mort, je voudrais te dire merci au nom de tant de prêtres germanophones et des prêtres du monde entier venus ici, à Medjugorje. Ils y ont trouvé un approfondissement de leur foi, certains même la restauration de leur foi. Je voudrais te dire merci pour les innombrables jeunes qui ont reçu leur vocation spirituelle ici, à Medjugorje, ou qui ont redécouvert la foi en l’amour de Dieu à leur égard. A travers ta vie droite, engagée et exemplaire, à travers la célébration de la liturgie, à travers la parole et la prédication, à travers la parole écrite dans tes livres, tu as donné un profond témoignage de la foi en l’amour de Dieu envers les hommes et envers la création. Ici, à Medjugorje, tu n’as pas seulement compris l’appel de la Gospa, mais tu as été un instrument convaincant de son appel à la conversion et à la foi. C’est ainsi que tu as montré à tous les pèlerins venus en ce lieu que, dans ce monde, pour aller plus facilement et avec plus de conviction vers Dieu, nous avons besoin de la main guérissante de notre Mère du Ciel. Dans la célébration de la messe, dans les nombreuses confessions, dans l’adoration eucharistique, dans l’explication des Ecritures et à travers d’autres sacrements, tu nous as montré le chemin vers la vraie et véritable rencontre de Dieu dans ce monde. Dans d’innombrables rencontres avec les pèlerins, parlant les principales langues du monde, et à travers tes livres traduits en nombreuses langues du monde, tu as permis aux hommes d’avoir part à ta profonde et grande confiance en Dieu, et de comprendre que Dieu est le Père qui nous aime tous infiniment.

Vijeće laika tijekom susreta i skupova uvijek je naglašavalo prvotnu važnost svjedočenja redovničke zajednice i potrebni laički identitet s njom povezane udruge. Redovničke zajednice i udruge laika ne bi smjeli miješati svoja životna usmjerenja, već njegovati djelotvorno i srdačno zajedništvo te surađivati u njihovom poslanju.

In a new era of consolidation of the laity (cf. CL, 29), the task of the Papal Council for the Laity concentrated increasingly on examining the new forms of communities and the responsibility for their canonical recognition and their foundation (cf. For this Pastor Bonus, Art 135, AAS 80 (1988), 895). These recognitions are always preceded by a positive report of the Ordinaries of the dioceses in which the respective movements have their branch, and by consultations with Bishops and experts in canon law. The numerous applications of the new associations for canonical recognition or their foundation caused the Council for the Laity to define a "method of procedure" for applications and review; the Council for the Laity was particularly careful in examining the statutes and formulating the decrees necessary for the recognition of an association as a juridic person. In the field of canon law the primary concern was for the criteria of distinction for associations of public and private right, about membership of Christians of other confessions in Catholic lay associations, or about the canonical structure of lay associations whose members live radically according to the evangelical counsels.

Z powodu wzrastającej liczby ruchów Papieska Rada do Spraw Świeckich jest często proszona o pomoc w tworzeniu nowych organizacji świeckich, które są zakładane na podobieństwo istniejących już wspólnot zakonnych. Obok kilku odnowionych tzw. Trzecich zakonów powstały liczne ruchy, bractwa i wspólnoty świeckich na różne sposoby zostały włączone do rodzin zakonnych. Rada świecka na spotkaniu i zebraniach zawsze podkreślała podstawowe znaczenie świadectwa wspólnoty zakonnej i konieczności zachowania świeckiej tożsamości związanej z tą wspólnotą organizacji świeckiej. Wspólnota zakonna i związek świecki nie są tym samym, ale powinny dbać o owocną i przyjazną społeczność i współpracować w misji. W celu wyjaśniania i wspierania obopólnych stosunków Papieska Rada do Spraw Świeckich a przy współpracy Kongregacji (związek kilku Klasztorów jednej reguły) zorganizowano dla Instytutów poświęconego życia i społeczności życia apostolskiego już w fazie przygotowawczej Synodu Biskupów na temat życia poświęconego Bogu spotkanie przełożonych klasztorów i liderów organizacji świeckich. Akta ukazały się pod tytułem „Latorośl krzewu winnego" w dokumentacji nr 28 (1994).
