Also, keep the sweet, salty and sour to a minimum, I know it is cold out there and the sweet taste brings us comfort, but if you are out there doing your activities, the last thing you need is to self sabotage and weigh yourself down with these tastes. Instead, think of bitter, astringent and pungent, and adding spices to keep your metabolism from slowing down due to inactivity all in a “stewy” saucy diet, which will also help keep your vata in check. Winter disturbs vata differently; vatas tend to get more anxious and perhaps suffer from sleeping issues; they also get sick more often, and can be overly distracted, thus unable to finish work projects. If you do feel for some sweet, sour or salty, it’s OK. Have some: after all it is winter and those tastes are comforting. But do not overdo it! Keep it in check and don’t miss a gym class, tennis lesson, or outdoor run because of it.
