The slogan of the new government is "statehood, development, fairness". Mr Oresharski does not promise revolutionary changes. He does not promise in the end of his term people to become richer. On the contrary, he commits that if the circumstances are favourable, it is possible the minimum wage to be raised to 450 levs (circa 225 euros). This, however, will not bring the incomes neither in this term nor in the forthcoming terms close to the levels in countries like Germany, France or Britain, Oresharski said. It should also be noted that not only incomes, but administration, the judiciary system, infrastructure and everything else that fits into the category "high living standard" will not come any closer to any of those top countries.

The economic crisis brought grist to the mill of market economy critics and revived the calls for social equality. This is probably most obvious in Greece, but such a social-populist pathos can be found also in the rhetoric of many European leaders, as well as the European institutions. The feeling of rejection of traditional conservative values and liberal beliefs is especially strong in a society like Bulgaria's that has never actually completed its transition from socialism to democracy. While this could be expected, albeit being wrong - the calls for social equality and security to prevail the public domain in the poorest country in the EU - such a tendency could be seen also in part of the German society.

But some of them do not withdraw their money – estimated to be worth some 310 million Deutsche Marks. As the federation fell apart, the bank was declared insolvent and in 1993 Slovenia’s Parliament passed a law, according to which all currency savings, by foreigners, were part of the heritage of ex-Yugoslavia, because before that they were guaranteed by the national bank of the latter. After the bancruptcy of the bank, the Slovenina government creastes the existing even today Nova Ljubljanska Banka and all controversial assests are left outside it. In 1997 a new law is passed, under which the claims of Croatian citizens are banned in Slovenia. Two year later Ljubljana agrees the issue to be solved via arbitration in Washington. The idea is not implemented as Croatia is facing elections the same year and President Franju Tudjman is terminally ill.

The green MEP Judith Sargentini who was most sharp during the hearing of the previous Bulgarian candidate Rumyana Zheleva a month ago, asked Christalina Gheorghieva how her job would precisely be formulated with regard to the international cooperation because it seems to be quite mixed with the responsibilities with other commissioners-designate. According to Ms Gheorghieva, she will work on international cooperation only in the context of humanitarian aid. She gave as an example the disaster situation in Myanmar almost 2 years ago when the local authorities did not allow deliveries of international aid. Then the international community initialed talks with the regional organisation ASEAN. This was exactly the way of work the commissioner-designate for the international cooperation should do, Gheorghieva further explained.
