A revision day for year 11 pupils, held at Treforest Campus, USW. Students will take part in two revision sessions, led by Lyn Howell. The revision sessions cover the topics ‘How the Brain Works/Learning Styles’ and ‘Memory Techniques /Study Skills’. The students will then experience a rep session led by John Chase, a freelance science communicator and rapper.

Roedd sesiynau’r bore yn cynnwys trafodaeth gyda Julie Morgan AC, Arweinydd Llywodraeth Cymru a’r Prif Chwip a Julie James AC, Cadeirydd Llywodraeth Cymru o’r Grŵp Trawsbleidiol ar Sipsiwn a Theithwyr, yn ogystal â Chwis Llywodraeth Cymru gydag Andrew Jones.
The morning sessions included a debate with Julie Morgan AM, Welsh Government Leader of House and Chief Whip and Julie James AM, Welsh Assembly Chair of the Cross Party Group on Gypsies and Travellers, as well as a Welsh Government Quiz with Andrew Jones.  After lunch, the young people visited the Planetarium and then were set a challenge to build an ‘aircraft’ that would reach the ground without breaking a raw egg.

Mae myfyrwyr cerddoriaeth ail flwyddyn o Goleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru, ynghyd â chyfarwyddwyr cerddoriaeth/llwyfan, yn ymweld ag ysgolion cynradd i gynnal dau weithdy awr o hyd ar ganu clasurol ac opera. Yna mae’r cast llawn yn perfformio’r opera un act, a ysgrifennwyd yn benodol ar gyfer plant a phobl ifanc, i’r ysgol gyfan yn y prynhawn.
Schools Opera aims to create a small scale, student led primary school opera performance with an accompanying introductory workshop. Second year music students from the RWCMD, along with the music/stage directors, visit primary schools with two one-hour workshops on classical singing and opera. The full cast then perform the one-act opera, specifically written for children and young people, to the whole school in the afternoon.

Mentors were trained by Consortia staff on the latest developments in the Maths and English curriculum, on new exam specifications, and had a chance to practice their teaching skills on their peers. They have also had the opportunity to visit various the various local Hub schools for English or Maths, where students could witness best practice teaching in action. Placements then started, beginning a programme of 12 weeks of weekly visits to schools across South-East Wales.

Cynhaliwyd yr ail ddiwrnod ym Mhrifysgol De Cymru gyda’r ffocws ar weithio mewn tîm, gan weithio gyda’i gilydd i barasiwtio ŵy yn ddiogel; cyn ymweld ag ystafelloedd peirianneg y Brifysgol am gyfle i roi cynnig ar rybedio paneli metel at ei gilydd a chynllunio, adeiladu a lansio eu roced eu hunain. Ar y diwrnod olaf roedd yna drip i @Bristol, unig Blanetariwm 3D y DU, ble welon nhw’r bydysawd yn dod yn fyw o flaen eu llygaid.
Fifteen girls took part in three fun filled days finding out about opportunities to study Space and Engineering at University. With thanks to experts at Cardiff University and the National Museum Cardiff on the first day, they were able to handle meteorites, find out why stars explode and answer why in Space, red is cold and blue is hot! The second day took place at the University of South Wales, team working was the focus, working together to safely parachute an egg; visiting the University’s engineering rooms, where they tried their hand at riveting metal panels together and they designed, built and launch their own rocket. The final day was a trip to @Bristol the UK’s only 3D Planetarium where they saw the galaxy and beyond come to life in front of their eyes.
