Unfair labour practice - Application under section 21 of the Public Service Staff Relations Act (PSSRA) alleging a violation of section 52 - Violation of freeze provisions alleged - Burden of proof - bargaining agent alleged that the employer had contravened section 52 of the Public Service Staff Relations Act (PSSRA) when it altered the hours of work of employees at four correctional facilities in the Atlantic region as a result of the fact that it ceased compensating employees for their ½ hour lunch break - the change took place after the bargaining agent had filed notice to bargain - the evidence demonstrated that for at least the last 18 years, employees at these institutions had enjoyed a paid lunch break - the question to be answered was whether the change in the employees' working schedule was a change in a term or condition of employment as contemplated by section 52 of the PSSRA - the Board held that if the employer had the right to change shift schedules before notice to bargain was given, that right remained in force after notice to bargain was given - it held that the applicant had not discharged its onus of proof - the Board also held thatestoppel did not apply in this case, as raising it now violated the principlesespoused by the Federal Court of Appeal in Burchill (infra) and as no detrimental reliance had been shown by the bargaining agent.

Dadurch entsteht eine Wellenbewegung, die den besonderen Reiz dieser Art von Fahrgeschäften ausmacht. „Die Stahlkonstruktionen dieser Anlagen müssen wegen der Fliehkräfte besondere Belastungen aushalten“, erklärt Krah, während er mit einer Taschenlampe im engen Inneren des Fahrgeschäfts die massiven Stahlträger inspiziert. An ihnen konzentriert sich ein Großteil der mechanischen Drehkräfte, die über den Mittelbau in den Boden geleitet werden. Deshalb hat der Experte besonders die Schweißnähte der Verstrebungen im Visier, an denen sich eine eventuelle Materialermüdung am ehesten zeigen würde. „Der Hersteller verbaut genau so viel Stahl wie nötig ist, aber eben auch nicht unbedingt mehr. Deshalb müssen alle tragenden Elemente in einem einwandfreien Zustand sein. Schließlich läuft dieses Gerät an 210 Tagen im Jahr und transportiert in jeder Saison tausende von Menschen.“

C'est l'un des rares amphibiens habitant les zones alpines. Deux sous-espèces sont reconnues, la plus largement répandue se trouvant au Canada (B. b. boreas). Le crapaud de l'Ouest vit de neuf à 11 ans. Avec une reproduction de type explosif, les adultes se rassemblent le long des rives en eau peu profonde lentique pour une période d'une à deux semaines chaque printemps. Les femelles pondent entre 5,000 et 16,500 oeufs par saison de reproduction et atteignent la maturité sexuelle à l'âge de quatre ou cinq ans. Les mâles atteignent la maturité sexuelle en trois ans. Les têtards sont noirs et se métamorphosent après environ trois semaines, période à laquelle ils se rassemblent en grand nombre le long des rives. Le crapaud est hautement philopatrique : la plupart des mâles retournent sur les sites de reproduction chaque année alors que les femelles n'y retournent que tous les un à trois ans. Les femelles s'éloignent plus des sites de reproduction, se déplaçant de 400 à plus de 600 m vers les aires estivales. Des déplacements exploratoires de plus de 7,2 km ont déjà été observés. Les domaines estivaux sont distincts et couvrent une surface variant de trois à sept hectares. Ces crapauds utilisent une variété d'habitats incluant la forêt, les terres humides, les coupes à blanc et les prairies herbacées, le domaine estival comprenant généralement des terres humides et terrestres. Ils utilisent les milieux ouverts car ils s'exposent souvent au soleil pour se réchauffer. Ils hibernent de quatre à six mois chaque hiver dans des terriers et sous des débris leur permettant de rester en contact avec l'humidité du sol.

We plan to elucidate the evolution of gene regulatory networks underlying the adaptive diversification of trophic morphology, and to study the relative importance of modification of gene regulatory processes versus de-novo mutations in coding regions affecting gene regulation with increasing divergence. We address this at four levels: non-coding RNAs, the epigenetic regulation via CpG methylation, gene expression, and divergence in coding regions (protein evolution, gene duplications).

Im vorliegenden Projekt wollen wir prüfen, ob die genetische Architektur der öko-morphologischen Anpassungen der Kiefer- und Schlundzähne bei äquivalenten Arten aus den drei ostafrikanischen Seen den von der Theorie der genetischen Akkommodation vorhergesagten Mustern entspricht. Wir haben hierfür drei unterschiedlich lange diversifizierte Sets von Modellarten mit folgenden Spezialisierungen ausgewählt: Kleintierräuber, Allesfresser, Algenbeißer und Algenraspler. Durch Kombination von vergleichend-anatomischen (Mikro-Computertomographie) und genomischen Ansätzen (Next-Generation Sequenzierung) versuchen wir die regulatorischen Komponenten der involvierten Entwicklungsgene bei alternativen Morphologien zu finden und zu studieren. Wir untersuchen diese regulatorischen Netzwerke auf 4 Ebenen: Nicht-kodierende RNAs, epigenetische Regulation über CpG Methylierung, Genexpression und Gen-Evolution (Proteinevolution, Genduplikation).
