Axionen wurden vor mehr als 30 Jahren als Lösung des so genannten CP Problems der starken Wechselwirkung vorgeschlagen und gelten als vielversprechender Kandidat für Dunkle Materie. Das CP Problem beschreibt unter anderem die Tatsache, dass das gemessene elektrische Dipolmoment des Neutrons um zehn Grösenordnungen kleiner ist als die theoretischen Vorhersagen, die aus dem Standardmodell der Teilchenphysik folgen. Das physikalische Prinzip von CAST beruht auf dem sogenannten Primakoff-Effekt, der es ermöglicht, dass Axionen in einem sehr starken externen transversalen magnetischen Feld in nachweisbare Photonen umgewandelt werden können.

Für die verlässliche Berechnung solcher Zündvorgänge sind aufwändige mathematische Modelle notwendig, die die vielfältigen Prozesse beschreiben. Dazu werden zunächst Modelle zur Beschreibung von Zündprozessen entkoppelt von Strömungsfeldern betrachtet. Eine weitere Vereinfachung stellt die Betrachtung von ein-dimensionalen bzw. maximal zwei-dimensionalen Systemen dar. In einem weiteren Schritt erfolgt dann die Kopplung der Zündmodelle mit Modellen zur Beschreibung von komplexen Strömungsfeldern. Letztendlich erfolgt dann der Übergang der detaillierten Betrachtung von Zündprozessen in H2 Systemen zu Systemen mit realistischen Kraftstoffkomponenten wie z.B. Diethylether und damit der Übergang zu chemischen komplexeren Systemen.

Al deze estuaria hebben te kampen met gelijkaardige uitdagingen zoals een toenemend overstromingsgevaar, de problematiek van het sedimentbeheer en het behoud van ecosysteemfuncties. De Zeeschelde en haar getijgebonden zijrivieren (Durme, Rupel met de Zenne, Dijle en Netes), de Westerschelde en het mondingsgebied van de Schelde vormen samen het Schelde-estuarium. De waterlichamen en overstromingsgebieden zijn onderhevig aan het getij vanuit de Noordzee, waardoor een sterke interactie bestaat tussen het Schelde-estuarium en de Noordzee. In de ‘Thematekst’ wordt een overzicht gegeven van de wetenschappelijke kennis, socio-economische gegevens en juridische aspecten met betrekking tot het ‘Schelde-estuarium’. De internationale regelgeving die van toepassing is op deze geografische regio wordt in meer detail besproken onder 'Wetgeving'. On a induit l'embryogenèse somatique chez des embryons zygotiques immatures pleins germains de mélèze hybride (Larix x leptoeuropaea) qui avaient été récoltés à trois dates différentes. Les résultats de l'analyse de la variance montrent l'existence d'une interaction entre la date de récolte et le milieu d'induction. On a observé le taux de réaction le plus élevé (55%) chez des embryons au stade pré-cotylédonnaire. On a utilisé 12 milieux de culture contenant des teneurs variées en acide abscissique et en saccharose pour favoriser le développement d'embryons somatiques matures de « grande qualité » qui seraient soumis à une période d'interruption de leur développement. Seuls les milieux auxquels avaient été ajouté de l'acide abscissique (20, 40 et 60 M), de l'acide indolylbutyrique (1 M) et 0,1 ou 0,2 M de saccharose ont permis un tel développement. Les trois facteurs mis à l'essai ont influé de façon significative sur le nombre d'embryons somatiques matures produits par gramme de matière fraîche de massif embryonnaire : la lignée embryogène, la teneur en saccharose et la teneur en acide abscissique. De plus, il existait des interactions importantes entre ces trois facteurs qui ont eu pour effet de compliquer la formulation d'un milieu universel de maturation pouvant donner les meilleurs résultats pour toutes les lignées enbryogènes.

Quantenchromodynamik: Unsere Analysen in diesem Bereich haben ein besseres Verständnis der Quantenchromodynamik (QCD) zum Ziel. Die QCD ist die Theorie der starken Wechselwirkung und daher ein zentrales Element an Hadronbeschleunigern wie dem LHC, auch als Untergrund fuer die oben erwähnten Analysen. Wir verwenden die Produktionsrate und die Spinausrichtung von Quarkonia (gebundene Zustände eines schweren Quarks mit seinem Antiteilchen) um die Vorhersagen von QCD-Rechnungen zu überprüfen.

La nostra visione persegue l'obiettivo strategico di progettare, favorire e sostenere una nuova diffusione dell'ingegneria informatica nella società, svolgendo anche ricerca orientata alle applicazioni concrete che consenta lo sviluppo interdisciplinare di servizi e prodotti innovativi. Infatti, i futuri sistemi ICT saranno sempre più integrati con altri sistemi di ingegneria come ad esempio i sistemi di gestione dell'energia, i sistemi di trasporto intelligente, gli edifici e le città intelligenti, i sistemi di supporto al benessere domestico e alla sanità ecc., mirando a livelli sempre maggiori di connettività e adattabilità e supportando le esigenze di coordinamento, sicurezza e flessibilità nella qualità del servizio. Questi obiettivi possono essere conseguiti solo mediante una forte interazione con le altre discipline ICT e con le varie aree applicative, da ciò scaturisce la necessità di un'alta integrazione con le altre aree del Dipartimento e con gli altri Dipartimenti all'interno del Politecnico di Milano.

Wolfram Weise ist ein international bekannter Wissenschaftler auf dem Gebiet der Theoretischen Kern- und Teilchenphysik, mit Forschungsschwerpunkt in der Theorie der Starken Wechselwirkung (Quantenchromodynamik, QCD). In vielzitierten Arbeiten hat er wichtige Ergebnisse erzielt zu Fragen der Symmetrien und Strukturbildung in der Physik der Hadronen und Atomkerne, zum Studium von Quark-Gluon-Materie unter extremen Bedingungen, wie sie im frühen Universum und in hochenergetischen Kollisionen von Kernen realisiert sind, und zur Erforschung hoch komprimierter Materie im Innern von Neutronensternen. Er ist Ko-Autor der in Fachkreisen bekannten Monografien: „Pions and Nuclei“ (1988) und „The Structure of the Nucleon“ (2001). Prof. Weise studierte Physik und Mathematik bis zum Diplom (1969) an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt/Main, promovierte 1970 und habilitierte sich 1974 an der Universität Erlangen. Nach Forschungsjahren in USA und am CERN in Genf folgte 1976 seine Berufung auf einen Lehrstuhl an der Universität Regensburg. Ab 1994 war er Ordinarius für Theoretische Physik an der TUM bis zu seiner Emeritierung im Jahr 2012. Längere Forschungsaufenthalte und Gastprofessuren führten ihn unter anderem an die Universität Kyoto, das Argonne National Laboratory bei Chicago, Institute for Nuclear Theory (INT) und University of Washington in Seattle, USA, und Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) in Japan. Er war Mitglied in den Herausgebergremien wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriften (Physical Review Letters, Physics Reports, Zeitschrift für Physik, European Physical Journal, Lecture Notes in Physics), sowie Mitglied zahlreicher Beiräte und Komitees von nationalen und internationalen Forschungszentren. In den Jahren 2000-2004 und erneut von 2012 bis Ende 2015 war Wolfram Weise Direktor des European Centre for Theoretical Studies (ECT*) in Trient.

On connaît les dépenses estimées des provinces consacrées aux programmes et à la recherche, mais aucune estimation fiable des activités et des dépenses dans la zone de GIEPNE n'est disponible. En raison de l'absence d'une telle information, compte tenu de l'emplacement du campus et des centres de recherche de la Dalhousie University et des bureaux des ONGE (qui se trouvent près de la VZGO), et compte tenu de l'importance relative des activités marines le long de la Plateforme Scotian, nous attribuons de façon théorique 25% des dépenses dans le domaine marin à la GIEPNE.
