Eine lange Partnerschaft verbindet Kirow mit dem Stahlwerk der voestalpine Stahl in Donawitz in der österreichischen Steiermark. Hier werden Sonderstähle produziert. Eine Spezialität sind Eisenbahnschienen, die bis zu einer sagenhaften Länge von 120 Metern am Stück hergestellt werden. Der Slag Taurus P 40, der aktuell gefertigt wird, ist schon das fünfte Gerät, das nach Donawitz geliefert wird. Die Nutzlast ist mit circa 35 bis 40 Tonnen zwar eher gering, jedoch aufgrund der speziellen Kübelgeometrie eine Herausforderung, da der Kübelschwerpunkt sehr nahe an den Aufnahmezapfen liegt, was den gefüllten Kübel instabil machen würde. Die Kirow-Ingenieure haben natürlich dennoch die perfekte Lösung gefunden: in Form eines zusätzlichen Hakens, der diesen Zustand egalisiert und einen sicheren und zuverlässigen Betrieb der Geräte garantiert. Bei der Abgasnachbehandlung kommt außerdem die neueste Technologie für Offroadfahrzeuge zum Einsatz: Das Abgas wird einerseits durch Rußpartikelfilter von einem Großteil der Schadstoffe befreit. Hinzu kommt die thermische und chemische Reinigung durch das Einspritzen von Harnstoff. Es gibt sogar Gerüchte, diese Abgasreinigung arbeite so effektiv, dass die Qualität der Luft, die den Motor verlässt, besser sei als die eingeführte Umgebungsluft, welche für die Verbrennung benötigt wird. Umweltfreundliche und sichere Hightech im Stahlwerk hat auch voestalpine Stahl wieder überzeugt.

These new product group codes are: 512A for methanol; 512B for other alcohols, phenols, phenol-alcohols, and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives; 514A for urea; 514B for other nitrogen-function compounds; 516A for formaldehyde; 516B for methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE); 516C for other organic chemicals; 554A for detergents produced by neutralisation of sulphonic acids; 554B for soaps produced by saponification of a fatty acid; and 554C for other soap, cleansing and polishing preparations.

Le directeur général de l’OIAC a fait deux nouvelles propositions qui contribueront grandement à régler ce problème. Depuis 2000, les États parties décrivent les «activités principales » de leurs usines en utilisant les « codes de groupes de produits » établis à partir des Classifications types pour le commerce international (CTCI). En vertu de la première proposition, des sous-catégories seront ajoutées au CTCI afin de déterminer avec plus de précision les sites qui fabriquent des produits chimiques en vrac peu pertinents pour l’objet de la Convention. Ces nouveaux codes de groupes de produits sont: 512A pour le méthanol; 512B pour les autres alcools, phénols, phénols-alcools et pour leurs dérivés halogénés, sulfonés, nitrés ou nitrosés; 514A pour l’urée; 514B pour les composés à fonctions azotées; 516A pour le formaldéhyde; 516B pour l’éther méthylique ter-butylique (MTBE); 516C pour les autres produits chimiques organiques; 554A pour les détergents obtenus par neutralisation des acides sulfoniques; 554B pour les savons obtenus par saponification des acides gras; et 554C pour les autres savons et produits de nettoyage et de polissage. L’utilisation de ses nouveaux codes permettra de mieux déterminer quels AIFPC présentent un intérêt limité et de réduire la probabilité que ceux-ci fassent l’objet d’une inspection.
