There is an online system that links the end customers’ orders – for example for spare parts – through the dealer’s web shop to the Komatsu stock system. That results in smoother processing of the orders, shorter delivery deadlines and, consequently, differentiation with respect to the competition. “At the same time we also need to be realistic about the rather traditional profile of the end-users of our machines,” says Borremans. “They are generally people who are working on a site or in a mine, wearing large working gloves. It’s not always easy to fit the use of tablets and smartphones into that world.”

À la clé, un traitement plus efficace des commandes, des délais de livraison plus courts et de quoi se distinguer de la concurrence. “Il faut aussi tenir compte du profil plutôt traditionnel des utilisateurs finaux de nos machines”, ajoute Chris Borremans. “Ce sont en général des gens qui travaillent sur un chantier ou dans une mine en portant de gros gants. Il n’est donc pas toujours facile d’intégrer l’usage des tablettes et des smartphones dans ce secteur.”

Als CIO buigt Borremans zich echter vooral over de ‘klassieke’ toepassing van ICT. “Ons doel is processen te perfectioneren en onnodige kosten weg te snijden.” Het internet maakt in dat verband heel wat nieuwe dingen mogelijk. Zo bestaat er een online systeem dat de bestelling van eindklanten – bijvoorbeeld van wisselstukken – via de webshop van de dealer koppelt aan het voorraadsysteem van Komatsu. Dat zorgt voor een vlottere verwerking van de orders, kortere leveringstermijnen en bijgevolg de differentiatie ten opzichte van de concurrentie. “Tegelijk moeten we ook realistisch zijn over het eerder traditionele profiel van de eindgebruikers van onze machines”, zegt Chris Borremans. “Dat zijn doorgaans mensen die op een werf of in een mijn aan de slag zijn, met grote werkhandschoenen aan. Het gebruik van tablets en smartphones is in die wereld niet altijd makkelijk in te passen.”

Im Fokus unserer Forschungsprogramme stehen dabei vor allem Anwendungen in der Gesundheitsforschung.
