The 3 most beautiful villages of France are located in… l'Hérault ! Built about 1 000 years ago, Minerve, Olargues and Saint-Guilhem-le-désert diserve a stop. Compared to a cruise liner ran aground the scrubland, Minerve is crossing 2 rivers La Cesse and Le Brian. Stand on its headland, the village thought it was invincible for a long time. On the north, next to the mountain of the Espinouse, Olargues stands up with its church tower a remain of the former fortified city. The village is one of the most beautiful site in the area. In the innerlands, Saint-Guilhem-le-désert is the place to be. Overhanging the gorges of Herault, the village counts one of the most beautiful abbey of the department : the Abbatiale of Gellone, elected to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
Nicholas Hlobo (Cape Town, 1975) makes installations which abound in colours, textiles and embroidery. They are reminiscent of the colourful clothing of African women. But a closer look reveals the second layer which refers to the gruesome and violent past of South Africa during apartheid and after apartheid. A past which a black homosexual artist cannot escape. Hlobo’s urge to make the history and culture of his country known all over the world through his work is inextricably connected to his native soil. Like Nelson Mandela, Steve Biko and Desmond Tutu, Hlobo comes from the traditional Xhosa community in the east of the Cape. The Xhosa community is characterized by traditions and customs which are passed on from generation to generation.
