On the occasion of New York Design Week 2009, the Italian Cultural Institute, is presenting an installation by Alessandro Loschiavo entitled WALKING THROUGH POPPIES. Visitors to the Institute’s gallery in Park Avenue will find themselves facing an artificial poppy field and having to cross a path made between two irregular hedges of red corollas almost suspended in mid-air. The airflows generated by the visitors passing will cause the stems and corollas to vibrate, making the naturalistic simulation more effective. The installation seeks to be an image of springtime lightness and carefree relaxation, in a time of economic difficulties and generalized social tensions. The preparation will be made up with a hundred or so Fiordifoto samples, the photo-holder flower designed by Loschiavo for Aliantedizioni.
