Pas Britanisë së Madhe, për herë të parë, pas gati 17 vitesh anëtarësimi në këtë organizatë të rëndësishme pan-evropiane, Shqipëria do të marrë kryesimin e këtij organi vendimmarrës të KiE-së, për periudhën maj-nëntor 2012.

During this session, will be passing the Chairmanship of the Committee from Ukraine to the United Kingdom for the period November 2011 - May 2012. After the Great Britain, for the first time, after nearly 17 years of membership in this organization important pan-European, Albania will take this decision making body of the CoE for the period from May to November 2012.

The U.N. Counter - Terrorism Committee, who is holding a three-day assessment visit in our country, today began the meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Edmond Haxhinasto. During this meeting the Committee expressed the highest marks in connection with the cooperation and the current process of reporting to our country.

b) The Council of Europe’s rule of law activities are aimed in particular at preventing the threats posed by dangerous phenomena such as corruption or the growth of criminal activity. The Albanian Government is determined to continue its excellent co-operation with the Council of Europe, particularly in its fight for zero tolerance against corruption. The Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers will be a good opportunity to take stock of that co-operation.

c) Promotion of the religious dimension as an important element of intercultural dialogue. As a country which takes pride of its century-long traditions of religious harmony, Albania has chosen the promotion of the religious dimension as an added value to offer to the organization. The Committee of Ministers organises annual Exchanges on the Religious Dimension of Intercultural Dialogue in pursuit of its major objective of promoting and strengthening the Council of Europe’s fundamental values. Albania will host the 2012 Exchange on the Religious Dimension of Intercultural Dialogue.

Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Albania agree that our consecutive Chairmanships will each strive to prioritize, with Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, the implementation of the ongoing programme of institutional and operational reform of the Council of Europe. It is appropriate that the Committee of Ministers is reviewing and rationalizing the Organization’s structure, work and budgetary priorities. This will ensure the Organization is best placed to have maximum impact through its unique pan-European work protecting and promoting human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

Z. Haxhinasto: Përshëndetje. Ishte një kënaqësi që  patëm këtë takim me Gjeneralin Syren, i cili është edhe Kryetar i Komitetit të Mbrojtjes të Bashkimit Europian. Takimi u zhvillua në kuadër të bashkëpunimit të Shqipërisë dhe këtij Komiteti.

Mr. Haxhinasto: Hello. It was a pleasure meeting with General Syrén, who is also Chairman of the EU Military Committee. The meeting was held in the framework of the cooperation between Albania and this Committee. As the Republic of Albania, we have several objectives, firstly in the framework of signing an agreement for the nearest cooperation, to participate and to increase our contributions in different operations and in all the security challenges that the common policy of defense and security of the EU has. Secondly, the other objective of short-term cooperation is achieving to sign an agreement of exchanging classified information. As you well know, Albania is an active and direct contributive member not only of the common EU policy, but also that of defense. Our capacities are growing. In this framework, we participate in many operations like the ones in Chad, Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Other teams also participate in Afghanistan, which is one of the main contributions Albania provides outside its borders in terms of security. This contribution will continue to strengthen in full cooperation with the EU Defense Committee. It was a pleasure to have the General here and I estimate that this meeting will provide a new impulse to the cooperation between the Republic of Albania and the EU in the security area.
