Lorsque du matériel génétique de virus responsables d’intoxications alimentaires est extrait, deux grands types d’approches sont offerts : des méthodes conventionnelles déjà bien établies mais habituellement longues et exigeantes à réaliser ou des trousses commerciales plus rapides et faciles d’utilisation mais qui sont beaucoup plus onéreuses. Il est alors important d’évaluer certains paramètres de performance dont la sensibilité analytique afin de choisir la meilleure technique dans chaque situation. Le principal objectif de cette étude était d’établir et de comparer les sensibilités analytiques de trois méthodes d’extraction de matériel génétique (le réactif TRIzol, la matrice FTA et la trousse QIAGEN) sur trois virus choisis, l’adénovirus, le virus de l’hépatite A et le rotavirus. La détection virale a été réalisée par une technique de PCR standard pour l’adénovirus et par transcription inverse suivie d’une PCR pour le rotavirus et le virus de l’hépatite A. Les résultats obtenus montrent qu’avec la trousse QIAGEN, la sensibilité est meilleure d’un facteur de 2 log par rapport aux deux autres méthodes et ce, pour les trois virus étudiés. Cependant, malgré leurs sensibilités analytiques plus faibles, ces deux autres méthodes d’extraction ne doivent pas être mises de côté et devraient être considérées lors d’évaluation d’approches efficaces et plus appropriées pour des raisons de commodité spécifiques puisque les éclosions d’intoxications alimentaires peuvent être reliées à une grande variété de types d’aliments.

Die Umfrageergebnisse zeigten, dass über zwei Drittel der US-Amerikaner dem Freihandel mit Europa positiv gegenüber stehen, sofern er Arbeit und Wachstum bringt oder als Gegengewicht zur chinesischen Handelsmacht steht. Es gaben allerdings nur 9% der US-Wähler an, wirklich über die TTIP-Verhandlungen Bescheid zu wissen, was das Thema für die Kongressabgeordneten wenig attraktiv mache. Die Kommunikation mit den Bürgern sei auch in Deutschland ein Problem, da die Vorteile bisher zu wenig erläutert worden seien. Stattdessen sei in den USA eine emotionale Debatte über den Schutz von Markenrechten aufgekommen, die parallel zur deutschen Chlorhühnchen-Debatte laufe. Genannte Vorteile von TTIP seien ein vielfältigeres Angebot, niedrigere Kosten, Jobsicherheit und Arbeitsplatzwachstum. Die Teilnehmer stimmten einander zu, dass TTIP nicht zur Verschlechterung der jeweiligen Standards führen würde, sondern man damit sogar ein Freihandelsvorbild mit hohen Standards schaffen könne. In jedem Fall sollten die Verhandlungen bald erste Ergebnisse bringen. Andernfalls werde die gesamte öffentliche Debatte über TTIP weiterhin auf Spekulationen basieren.
