Pojedine bobice na grozdu asocirale su upravo na šiljasti dio mašklina – šip i tako je Pošip dobio ime. Autentičnost loze potvrđena je DNA analizom kojom je dokazano da je Pošip autohtona Korčulanska sorta nastala križanjem dviju korčulanskih sorti.

Tomašić "Barbaca" Marin of Marina "Caparin" during cleaning of forest in Stiniva canyon found wild wine which interested him for its unusual taste and aroma. He cut the branches and planted them in his vineyard on "Punta Sutvara". Today the original vine can still be found here. The name Pošip comes from the long shaped grape and from the basic tool for clearing land which is called mašklin. The tool has blunt part (pal) and pointed part (šip). Some grapes looked like the pointed part of the tool so that is where Pošip got its name from. The authenticity of this vine was certified by DNA analyses. It has been proven that Pošip is Korčual autochthonous vine which emerged by cross breeding of two sorts that are also autochthonous for Korčula. Today Pošip is the „King“ of Smokvica vineyards. People of Smokvica erected a memorial in the place where Pošip was found to the person that found it and to all Smokvica peasants which cultivate the land with pride and hard work.

der Sohn des gest. Marin "Caparin", während des Abholzens in der Schlucht Stiniva urwüchsige Weinrebe gefunden hat, welche ihn mit ihrer Arome und ihrem Geschmack angezogen hat. Er hat die Weinrebe abgeschnitten und im seinen Weingarten auf der Lokation "Punta Sutvara" gepflanzt. Heute noch gibt es auf diesem Gebiet Weinstocke welche dank dem Sandboden überlebt haben und auf Reblaus (Phylloxera vastatrix) beständig sind. Der Name Pošip entstand aus der Form der verlängerten Beere und aus dem Werkzeug für Abholzen, namens Mašklin. Dieses Werkzeug hat einen stumpfen („pal“) und einen gespitzten Teil („šip“). Einige Beeren assoziierten gerade auf den gespitzten Teil – „šip“ und so hat Pošip seinen Namen bekommen. Die Originalität der Weinrebe wird mit DNK Analyse bestätigt, mit welcher geprüft wird, dass Pošip die autochthone durch Kreuzung von zwei Sorten entstandene Weinsorte auf der Insel Korčula ist. Heute ist Pošip „der König“ der Weingärten von Smokvica, und auf dem Ort wo Pošip gefunden ist (Pinćaluša), befindet sich das Denkmal für Pošip, seine Erfinder und für alle Bauern aus Smokvica, die das Land mit Stolz und viel Mühe bewirtschaften.

Tomašić "Barbaca" Marin, figlio di Marin "Caparin", avviatosi nel bosco del canyon Stiniva aveva trovato una vite silvestre che catturò la sua attenzione poiché dal sapore e dall'aroma inusuali, la prese e la fece riprodurre nel proprio vigneto in un punto chiamato “Punta Sutvara” ed oggi esistono ancora queste viti matrici che sono sopravvissute grazie al terreno sabbioso e sono inattaccabili alla radicicola. Il nome Pošip deriva dalla forma della bacca allungata. Uno strumento fondamentale per la preparazione del terreno e la compensazione è il “Mašklin”, che ha il compito di smussare e si compone di una parte piatta (pal) e una parte appuntita (šip). Alcune bacche riportano per la forma alla parte appuntita dello strumento, ed ecco che il vino prende il nome il Pošip. Il lignaggio dell'autenticità è stato confermato dall'analisi del DNA, che ha dimostrato che il Pošip è una varietà autentica di Curzola creata dall'incrocio di due sorte di viti proprio sull'isola di Curzola. Oggi il Pošip è il "sovrano" dei vigneti di Smokvica e nel luogo in cui è stato trovato (Pinćaluša) vi è stato eretto un monumento in onore del ritrovatore e di tutti i lavoratori agricoli che lo producono con orgoglio, duro lavoro e tanto impegno a Smokvica.
