PHAC needs to balance funding for populations at risk and the overall concept of health equity for all Canadians and is looking to integrate chronic and infectious disease approaches. It will not replace activities; rather it will tie them together for greater value.

And for such a meeting, you had to put on an exhibition. But I thought, ah ha I got it, I’ve got Doug Morton, Ken Lochhead, Bloore and Ted Godwin. Godwin had just come into Regina from Calgary, he became known as the kid. That’s great, I’ve got these guys I can really put on a show. My predecessor here, Richard Simmons, we were at some meeting one time and he turned over and said "Bloore, what is the exhibition you going to put on?" and I said “Oh Ken, Morton, etc.” and he went POW!...like that. And he said “Bloore if you do that, you'll never have a reputation in a Canadian museum world.” What could I do? I had already agreed to, all the guys agreed. And then Evan Turner, then director of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, came in early. He was a pretty potent figure, turned around and asked me who painted these things. I said “just the local guys.” He couldn’t believe it. Simmons comes in and finds me chatting about with Turner and finds out that Turner thinks this is a great exhibition, which it was. And things changed around. Simmons at that time was working for the National Gallery as a kind of curator and he phoned up one time to me and said “Bloore I want to reconstitute the May show, as my guy called the show.” So that’s how it became Five painters from Regina, I forgot - I should have had that idea myself.

Recently, the National Research Council (NRC) organized a four day international workshop focused on improving human vaccine development and global vaccination networks. Infectious disease scientists, regulators and business people gathered from Canada and the Latin America in Ottawa for this forum. They came from Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Colombia and Mexico to meet their colleagues and counterparts in Canada. This networking activity was applauded by its participants, as it achieved its goal of fostering international dialogue regarding vaccine development, production, commercialization and distribution. The roundtables also encouraged talks of collaborative R&D partnerships and global vaccination networks with greater harmonization of regulatory standards.

Probably one of the more humorous instances I had while working at the Board was we used to have to do these hearings with supply demand, the Supply Demand Hearing, and I can remember on one occasion I was on the staff working on that and I had to fly into St. John's because we were starting off in St.John's, NFLd. I took a later flight, most of the folks had gone on early, went through Halifax. When we landed in Halifax all the people in the plane applauded. And I'm thinking these are pretty happy ex-patriate Newfoundlanders to be back home. I didn't think much of it. I got to the hotel, I check into the hotel and the guy says "Oh! You're the only one here." I said, "What do you mean I'm the only one here?"

The work plan includes enhancing senior-level dialogue on trade and investment, promoting increased trade and investment between ASEAN and Canada, as well as increasing the private sector’s involvement in promoting trade and investment. Several interrelated key activities have been or will be implemented, including the first ASEAN-Canada Corporate Social Responsibility Workshop, held on February 27, 2013, in Singapore, and Canada’s active participation at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. The ministers also acknowledged Canada’s recent announcements supporting ASEAN’s economic integration agenda, specifically the US$2 million to provide ASEAN with financial regulations training and US$4.3 million over three years to support an ASEAN public-private partnership centre of excellence, in partnership with Singapore and the Asian Development Bank.
