Die vorgeschlagene Aktivät soll diese Lücke angehen, durch die Konzeption und Durchführung einer Reihe von regionalen Trainingsmodulen für Nachwuchswissenschaftler, bei denen ihnen Ressourcen, Methodiken und Erfahrungen vermittelt werden, wie sie sich auf verschiedenen Wegen in der Wissenschafts-Politik-Landschaft engagieren können. Zwar existiert bereits eine Vielfalt an Wissenschafts-Politik-Trainingsinitiativen, doch viele davon wenden sich an ein breites Spektrum von Wissenschaftlern, sind eher darauf ausgerichtet, Wissenschaftler über den politischen Prozess zu unterrichten oder erfordern einen beträchtlichen Zeitaufwand (z.B. AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowships, AMS Colloquium, DISCCRS). Das vorgeschlagene Trainingsmodul soll diese Lücke schließen und bietet ein zielgerichteteres Training über einen kurzen Zeitraum, wie man sich in den politischen Prozess einbringen kann. Dabei wird der Schwerpunkt auf den Atmosphärenwissenschaften liegen, obwohl ein Großteil des Inhalts auch übertragbar sein könnte und einer anderen internationalen Wissenschaftsorganisation, z.B. Future Earth, als Vorlage dafür dienen könnte, wie sich Wissenschaftler in die Wissenschaft/Politik-Landschaft einbringen können. Ziel dieser Wissenschaft/Politik-Trainingsmodule ist es, eine Wissensgrundlage und die Möglichkeiten des Engagements in der Wissenschaft/Politik-Landschaft zu vermitteln, mit Konzentration auf den besonders politikrelevanten Bereich der Atmosphärenwissenschaften.

The article, in which Kouwenhoven describes his discovery, was declared best article in 2012, by the leading American scientific organisation AAAS.
